I always enjoy your show Graig! It has to be awesome being able to positively impact your students’ lives through teaching personal finance. You are able to convey your thoughts in a very clear and concise manner - I’m sure you’re a wonderful teacher - would’ve never guessed you’re shy! I got back into collecting baseball cards in May this year after being away from the hobby since 1990. I’ve had some success thus far cracking slabs and resubmitting to SGC. I love the way most vintage cards look in SGC holders. In June I bought a 1967 Topps Hank Aaron 250 and 1971 Hank Aaron 400 (both well-centered clean PSA 6), cracked them out, submitted both to SGC, and they both came back as SGC 7.5. I also bought a 1974 Hank Aaron 1 in a BVG 8.5, cracked it, submitted to SGC, and it came back as a SGC 8.5. In my opinion PSA is undergrading a lot of cards right now. I look for really nice PSA 5 or 6 cards to possibly crack and resubmit if I can’t find a card that fits my eye already in a SGC holder (for example). Keep up the great work!

Great video and really appreciate your super forthright and candid answers. Have also loved following your Banks journey because -- that's a very special card to me too! The Banks rookie (in a PSA 4) was the first high-dollar card I ever bought, maybe about six years ago now, and because of that it will always be special to me. It signifies when I really took the plunge into collecting. So I've bought cards since then of guys I have more of a personal connection to, I've bought more expensive cards (especially since I bought the Banks pre-price-boom), but...to this day Banks remains in the most important spot in my most important case. Totally agree that it's about the story.

Great episode Graig, very interesting questions as well. I personally would take 800K and put it towards my retirement, investing etc. I would take another 100K and help out my family, and friends that could really use the funds. Finally, the last 100K I would buy a couple high grade Jackie Robinson early year cards, and a couple Mickey Mantle high grade cards! You can never go wrong with the GOATS! I agree with getting Robinson cards, he in my opinion is still under-appreciated for what he did! Those cards will continue to gain value! Keep collecting

Another great Q&A day. Thank you for answering questions. How about this one? It’s very difficult to have two hobbies that you equally love and have the time (and money) to satisfy both. For me, my other hobby is fishing. I don’t get out as much as I want to these days, but it’s still very fun and important to me. Do you have a second hobby that you love almost as much as card collecting? And if you do, what is your strategy for balancing both? Fishing and cards may sound different, but they do clash. Money and time are needed for both.

Regarding the question on purchasing BGS to have crossed-over to PSA/SCG. If I understand correctly, PSA will take a BGS card in it’s holder if submitted for a cross-over grade. You pay the PSA fee, and you have to submit your lowest grade acceptable. If PSA thinks it matches that grade, then they crack it and put it in their slab. If not, they re-send it back. Yes, you lose the fee, but it is still in the BGS holder. I have thought about doing this to be able to purchase a card I want because BGS cards are definitely going for cheaper today in comparison to PSA. And I like the idea of having my cards in PSA holders for long-term.

If modern PSA 9’s are = to raw, then it’s even more a reason for raw collectors to buy them. Think about it this way, would you want in your PC (for the same price) a card in a card saver or a PSA 9 slab? That’s why i like modern PSA 9 cards because you are essentially paying raw prices like we did back in the day, but the card is authenticated and encapsulated.

I have a question I wanted to ask. Since you answered 2 of my questions in this Q&A. I don't mind waiting. One of my dad's hobbies he had, in addition to collecting baseball cards was, however coin collecting, Mainly vintage silver, since it's affordable, and much less expensive than buying gold. He has periodically given to me some of those coins, and has tried to convince me that coin collecting, is a fun hobby too. I'm wondering, if you and your dad, or maybe like, a grandparent or uncle ever collected coins in your family whether that be gold and/or silver? How would you compare and contrast the gold and silver versus the sport card market, and if you think collecting precious metals (not the PMG's), are a safer ''investment'' than sport cards? Thanks, Graig.

LOL. Lucy is VERY good, but she's not THAT good. She has several colleges that she has been in contact with . The hard part is she wants to make sure she's going to the right college, and not just one that wants her. The local Junior Colleges also really want her, so there's a chance she may stay home for two years and play there first.

Hey Graig, I think you maybe missed the last questioner’s point… (or maybe I did) I think they were asking would you buy a double of it… not, “would you replace it” necessarily. This happens to me, once you have a honed sense of something’s value, you notice when the deal is really too good to pass up, even if you have one. I bought a second curt flood rookie last month because the price was just too good. I already have one in the same grade, but I felt like I had to rescue the other one when it looks so good and brings my dollar cost average down by $150. 😅
@ACD19942 ай бұрын
Hey, that was one of my questions. Yeah. But I think Graig, understood the question. He said that he will never buy a second Ernie Banks rookie card. I believe it. Not everyone needs 18 Robin Yount rookie cards. Dylan, might have more than that. Not quite sure.

What are his thoughts on KZbin if he's a a viewer too, and, what are his thoughts on the current state of the hobby? Would he also rather have a Goudey Babe Ruth over $10,000 dollars? However, when I first created this channel I was not quite 21 years of age. Now, I'm 35. Life goes fast. So yeah. Here is one of the oddest questions you may have gotten in some time....its a mind blower!! This question is for the investor/seller side of the hobby rather than the collector side. As most of us know by now Greg Morris items being sold on eBay sell for a huge premium. The items being sold by them with the condition "nm-mt or better" go for a ridiculous premium. Here is my crazy question. I have some graded cards from the 1960s that are in PSA 8 holders. Would I be absolutely crazy to crack them and consign them with Greg Morris? I have been watching some raw cards and with the title stated earlier go for double the value of an 8! I cant believe I am even asking this because I know it sounds absolutely insane but it actually makes money sense. If you dare tackle this one...thanks!

I would also diversify my $100K, but between vintage and modern, acquiring cards for long term value as well as cards of players that I love who were or at the top of their game. I would go after of Babe Ruth, Jim Brown, Frank Thomas (1990 Topps No Name On Front), Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, and Shohei Ohtani (generational talent in hitting and pitching).

The $100,000 distribution, you mentioned, was answered with investing as the focal point. The cards you selected were good selections, but are these the first cards you'd want as a collector if you were buying $100,000 of cards? I know deep down anything in our PC is an investment for the future. Some might hand their collections down to their kids and some might sell it in the future. However, given that there's no guarantee of a promising ROI, I'd have to invest $100,000 in other proven avenues. Not to say that you can't have a little fun with some of that money on some cards. I know this was all hypothetical, so I just thought I'd share some thoughts.

No doubt. And it’s a super intriguing question. Personally, I’d love to have 100k for cards, but if I were to do it strictly for an investment, I’d probably invest my money in the market. But for cards, I think these are some of the better options…at least off the top of my head.
