Black locust can also be propagated by root cuttings although I have not tried that method yet. Edible Acres on KZbin has good info on that method.

If you don't want to boil and wait, put seed pods somewhere dry in the cold of winter, then cut the tiniest bottom of the seed off and soak. I did that this year and thought i ruined the seed after it swelled in 12hrs, the seed shot a root within the next 24hrs. Zone 6 high desert, your results may vary

How long will these seeds remain viable if stored in a refrigerator. I bought some that are from 2020 from Sheffield's seeds.

I don’t have seeds to share. I do have trees for sale, but local pickup only in Saline,MI. If you know where mature trees are located, you can collect the dry seed pods in fall/winter.

I assume you mean thorns? As far as I know there isn’t a thornless variety. There are thornless honey locusts though. They are similar to black locusts and I propagate them the same way by seed.

@@awakenacres oh, I didn't know that. Got to propagate. I think that would be my favorite tree in my lands, except those thorns. I make firewood from these trees and those thorns destroy cloths, shoes. Once it even cut fuel line in my car, lol
