How I prune Flamingo/Japanese willow every spring

Hi guys, today I will be showing you how I rapidly prune my Japanese willow every spring. It is a type of oriental willow (Salix integra) with white and pink variegation.
This willow grows extremely fast and without proper pruning twice a year it would take over the space completely and the trunk could not support the crown. I will be also taking out the supporting stake as the trunk of the willow has grown stronger since last year.
Let’s gather my supplies. I will be using a ladder, clean, sharp pruners, and loppers.
Usually, I cut back all main branches to 30 to 50%. Also, I will be pruning out old, damaged, dead, or crossing main branches to increase sunlight and airflow.
Regular pruning will maintain their size, and shape, and encourage vibrant growth.
You may be surprised at how quickly it regenerates and pushes new branches, so it won't remain in its current state for long. Additionally, the new branches will be better supported by a more beautiful shape and stronger trunk.
Don’t Stress if you accidentally cut off the wrong branch or take off too much. No worries! Japanese willows are forgiving. You won’t hurt them.
In Midsummer, I will be only doing light trimming for shaping, size control, and to encourage colorful pink and white new growth.
