Thank you very much for explaining the pruning process in detail for a beginner like me.

I'm in Goleta CA I'm growing a cherimoya. I just got it to fruit this year.
@thenoobgardener Жыл бұрын
Nice! Try growing atemoyas; taste and texture are superior to cherimoyas in my opinion. Should do well in your region; it’s almost always grafted on a cherimoya rootstock.

@thenoobgardener nice, I'll keep my eyes open for that variety. This trees I got from an old coworker it was from seed. I really like the flavor they put out. He would bring some to work to share.
@thenoobgardener Жыл бұрын
@@GreenMonsterDee420 there are many atemoya varieties just like the cherimoya. Try the African Pride as your first atemoya variety.

Mine never bear bear fruit got 3 trees

Hi, I am in Northern California and just bought a Geffner grafted Atemoya. It’s trunk is about 1/2” thick with a few thin branches but it’s 4 feet tall. Do you think it’s ok to prune the main stem down to 2 feet high at planting time? I don’t want it to grow too tall long term. Thx
@thenoobgardener Жыл бұрын
Wait until next year. The plant might shock and die if you do it now. Give it sometime to acclimate first after transplanting. They don’t grow that fast the first couple of years, so I wouldn’t be too worried about it.

Hello, how do you know a fruit is ready to be harvested, do you go by its color, or softness of the fruit? thank you.
@thenoobgardener4 ай бұрын
The color and how the fruit looks (from experience). If by softness then it has already ripen on the tree. Typically, if you harvest early enough, it takes a week for the fruit to ripen afterward. This way, you can give it as a gift and ship them anywhere in the US.

My tree does not bear fruit, will it bear fruit without hand pollination
@thenoobgardener11 ай бұрын
Yes it will. With that said, the flowers need to be pollinated somehow to set fruits. So you’d be relying to insects to pollinate and that is not always guaranteed.

How do you know when to pick the geffner or AP variety?
@thenoobgardener Жыл бұрын
Look for the color on the shin to change. Geffner = the skin turns yellow/green and the fruit looks stretched and the pointy scales look fat/stretched. AP = the color is not as yellow as the geffner, the skin is smoother and there is somewhat a shine on the skin.

Hi, which month do you trim this tree. Thank you. I’m from NorCal

Mid March. Right before it comes out of dormancy.

How long can you keep the pollen? I have a Dream and Lisa, but they never bloom at the same time.
@thenoobgardener Жыл бұрын
I have had people telling me one week in the fridge. My friend’s dad does it and it works for him. However, for me, when I first started out with little flowers like you are now, it never worked for me even after one day. Also, my Lindstrom’s pollen doesn’t work, even fresh. I use my African pride’s pollen to pollinate all my trees. The flower is big and generous with the amount of pollen.

@@thenoobgardener Thank you. Guess I should add AP to the collection.

Yes, I’m trying to contain my tree and the fruits are quite heavy for the smaller branches. With my small trees I was able to get 25+ fruits per tree this past season.
