i appreciate this SO MUCH. my non-reader friends are always like "girl where do you find the time to read" or "wish I had time for that" and I'm like I DON'T HAVE THE TIME lol like you said I'm out here stealing time and I'm genuinely so addicted to reading that I'd rather read than scroll on social media or watch netflix but it's still entertainment I'm just switching out one kind of entertainment for another

Read when you are travelling. I have my school 20 minutes away. So i spent 40 minutes reading. I have actually started to romanticise reading at 6:30 a.m with full windows down and the chilly wind whipping my face. I am usually the first one to arrive at campus, so I read a lot before my class. I read after my classes are finished. I actually watch movies in my free time, but i do like to read a few pages side by side. At the library, I give myself a goal. For example, after learning this topic, i will read a chapter of my book.

Your amazing😮. Every time I’m like, “ok let’s do this thing then we can read.” My brain just goes, “or we just read and not do the thing.” I’ve gotten better but sometimes it’s a battle.😅I wish my car was self driving so I could read while going to work. Or heck I wish public transport was better so I could read while going to work. A whole hour wasted and the book I’m currently reading right now doesn’t come in audio 😖

As an md/phd student who also reads about 100 books a year these tips are so real! I actually can't remember the last time I read a full book physically bc even if I own a physical copy I will still borrow it on Libby just so I can have it on my kindle & phone. The only tip here I haven't done myself is tip 3 only bc we go through modules so quickly in med school that we're testing multiple times a week & I literally cannot afford to not pay attention for even just a millisecond in class if I don't wanna fall behind. So, I just reward myself w reading breaks while studying instead 😂

3:24 THIS. Last year I didn't read like a single book bc this was my exact problem - I thought of it as something that I needed to do, books required for school for example. This year this completely changed when I realized reading is literally just fun (the irony is I had this breakthrough while reading Shakespeare for school 💀 and I'm not even a particular fan of classics). Like I genuinely started thinking of reading as equal to watching a TV show. And now it's something I look forward to and have read 20 books this year (nothing compared to 80 but it's progress alright). Mindset is key.

omigosh you're so real for this! I used to be very much so "anti ebook" and "I love actual paper pages," but then 2020 happened and I couldn't go to the library for like months so I had to read e-books on Libby and I grew to really like them! It's not even that much different for me at this point: set the view to sepia and you might as well be reading a real book lol. it's just SO convenient being able to read on my phone/laptop. I get so much reading done on my commute to uni or in between classes. I know for me, I have to read before bed to fall asleep so that's where I steal time as well. Audiobooks are one thing I haven't gotten into but I actually checked out one recently so let's see how it goes :) anyways, 100 books as a grad student is crazy so props to you girl

Other ideas 1. Read with easy tasks like brushing 2. You can read an actual book if your workout is walking, and not the best idea but I walk and read 3. You don’t have to always engage in the same activity as others, if your friend or partner is watching TV you can sit with them but read 4. Swap activities you’re bored of. For example, if you always talk on the phone or watch TV when eating dinner but there’s no one you want to talk to or nothing you want to watch, swap it for reading. Don’t force yourself because it’s routine.

I’ve read 75 books his year and my methods are nearly identical, as a full time student I have no time, but I squeeze in the reading. I mean, we all also scroll for hours when we “have no time”, so I try and switch that out for reading. And I also use library apps on my phone to borrow books so I don’t have to buy them or commit to books I don’t end up liking.

One tip that has helped me read a lot is to use Libby since you can see how many people are waiting after you and the people pleaser in me will not let those people wait the full 21 days (I read Jade City in like 2 days because 7 people were waiting) so basically just become a people pleaser one tip I have for people who want to get into classics though is to just read romances like Jane Austens works because it’s honestly peak escapism or just reading female authors works in general like the Brontë sisters or Mary Shelley :) Plus classics are free which is great in this economy 😅 But if they don’t work for you it’s fine to just move on since life is too short (crime and punishment was too boring so I just put it down)

I started audio book this year but it’s hard for me (more than paper books). With my anxiety and concentration issues, I often daydream and get lost in my thoughts, but it’s a really great way to consume books ! For now, I’ve read 40books this year, which is a lot imo. I have other hobbies and I also enjoy chilling while doing nothing.

I started listening to audiobooks to improve my auditory comprehension! Same with reading digitally at the start, I just didn’t have the same attention span as I did for physical books. I started with contemporary and YA, but now can read non-fiction and complex fantasy on audio too! Plus, I feel like it made a huge difference in my digital reading comprehension for online textbooks and the amount I could remember from listening to a lecture❤

When I’m reading, I’m active, because my eyes are moving and I have to turn the pages, but when I’m listening to an audio book, i have too much thoughts and daydream a lot, it’s harder to get back to the audio and I often realize that I stopped listening to the story for a while. Hard agree on the reading in class ! I study English Linguistics and Literature and I have several classes where presence is mandatory but the grade is based on a short paper based on ONE topic covered in ONE double-session. So by the beginning of the semester I choose my prefered topic, pay attention during that class and for the rest of the semester I sit there and either do work for other classes or read on my iPad. Uni is great but I absolutely have to choose where to invest my energy.

"reading books is like watching netflix" omg yes please someone say it, so there's this misconception about reading books that it's a hustle, but in reality books are a medium in which way some consume content, educational books or non-fiction book are alike tutorials/video essays/edu videos/ documentaries, while reading fiction is just like watching a tv show/movie, I think it's largely a matter of preference in which way you want to consume stuff and which way works best for you I do also agree that as you said, if you find the right book you will read it, you will find the time, you will squeeze your reading periods within the few leisure minutes you have throughout the day, and feel even more fulfilled

imo reading is far more phenomenal in itself than watching movies (for myself), and when you are a reader, a good book will probably take you to read as much time as watching the show let's say, so in fact reading does get more convenient time efficiency wise. I read like 100-150 books yearly and people usually think I don't have much to do, or I don't go enough social events/meetings, but in reality it's just finding an opportunity to read at some possible times

I just read They Call Her Sofia by Doris Ladino and I loved it! It’s a romance book about healing and finding self love after being betrayed and manipulated. It’s sweet and spicy. The audiobook is very entertaining and easy to listen to. Overall , It’s a feel good book and fast read. Enjoy!

Hi! This advices are SO GOOD. Omg. I will always say that you read much better in a digital way, like an ereader, o audiobook… for me at least. This year I read like… 16 books, and I have more free time than you have, but I have like 20 books not finished. And have not listened to an audiobook for a whole year. But I don’t have the motivation, I need to find it. Should get a bathroom, a gym and a class book 100% (I work in a library, so in this case I have all physical books). Also, I love your background with Friends and Rory Gilmore/Girls posters, I think I’m gonna subscribe right now 😃

Actually practical tips we love to see it! For me it’s the same, I don’t have any time to schedule for reading and even if, let’s be honest I’m not gonna read. Another tip: I take public transport for 1 hour every day. AT LEAST, on most days even more (I’m from Berlin, Germany), and most of my reading is there. Then also if you use Libby and have library audiobooks and ebooks , sometimes your library will have the ebook and the audiobook available. READ HYBRID!! I tend to get uneasy reading one book, so I either change to a different book and finish the other one later or I borrow the audiobook and the ebook and switch how I read. This helps so much! Also for my ADHD pals, set your audiobook to 1,5 to 2 times speed. This was what made me finally get into audiobooks.

I was someone that didn’t really like audiobooks that much. Then I found audio dramas. I listened to a couple of those and I was hooked. I then started listening to both audio dramas and audiobooks and borrowing them from the library like a kid in a candy store.

Omg, a fellow Toronto grad student booktuber! I'm at York 😊 Such a great point that people read for elitism instead of plain old love for the book. I'm so guilty of this and it totally reduces the amount I read.

This is me to a tee lol. I wish I could romanticize reading phsycial books on a park bench or something but I don't have the time! I started reading e-books a decade ago and haven't stopped but then when life got busy, I dipped my toe into Audiobooks and I fell in love because now I get to listen to it on my commutes, at the gym, even during work (ope 🤫) . I get through way more books that I actually want to read, not the ones that I get embarrassed about reading in front of people lmao

A very easy way to read hundreds of books a year would be to embrace Manga/Manhwa/Graphic Novels. Yes the price may be huge on a physical front but there are a lot of apps/sites for reading comic book related material. In fact it wouldn’t be a massive challenge to read 365 books a year.

Hmm but it’s not a competition, is it ? Read mangas because you want to, not because you want to say « I’ve read 100 books » there’s no price to win by reading this much 😅 I don’t think the number of books we read is important, it’s more about making the time to read instead of scrolling on social media etc

@@Solip_i I don’t in anyway disagree but with a video titled to talk about reading more I was just pointing out a way of doing it. I do believe in quality over quantity but as a reader of many genres and types the more you can read the more chance you will have of finding more stories to love.

I've always been a physical book only kinda girl, until earlier this year i realised how hard it is to actually carry round a physical book (especially thick ones!) and trying to read a physical book in different positions is so awkward. I got an ereader less than 2 months ago and I've already read more in that 2 months than i had the previous 9 months. Life changing, honestly.

I can 100% vouch on audiobooks! Getting into audiobooks is the best decision I've done this year. I've practically read almost double the number of books that I did this time last year because now I rotate between physical, ebook, and audiobook. Audiobook is a gamechanger because I can do it while doing mundane chores or when I'm on the road!I must say though, the audiobook narrator can make or break a book for you. I've read audiobooks with good stories but I just didn't vibe with the narrator's voice. Others have such INCREDIBLE narrators that I was willing to sit through them voicing the most annoying or unlikeable characters ever.

I pretty much only read non-fictions, and if I want to read fiction, I read memoirs lol so I feel like even though I can read fast and over 100 books a year, I dont retain the info, and need to slow down to 50-60 books a year for it to stick in my brain in the long run.

Wait on the topic of your soulmate dream….I have also had one of those!! I’ve never been in a relationship before but in my dream I was walking down the isle to marry someone I’d never seen before in real life, but could see his face clearly.
