As a relatively newbie, I see a lot of collaborative videos that take place amongst fragrance influences and contributors here on YT. In fact, as someone looking from the outside in, this is one of the aspects I've really enjoyed about the community. This type of comradery has actually made the "Fragrance Community" feel like a community. I hope that I'm not that naïve and that my perceived respect that the fragrance YT contributors have for one another is genuine. I started watching him around late 2015 maybe the beginning of 2016 and he was absolutely amazing. The fragrance youtubers before him we're making 25 minute videos going over I bottle of fragrance. They didn't seem really enthusiastic about it. Jeremy was a fresh breeze that really caused me to get more into and excited for fragrances. His camera work and editing was new and different for the time. Everything just clicked. He made more list than anyone before I think and that was really cool and unique in early 2016. Somewhere around 2019 or so, he seemed to start getting less enthusiastic and more erratic. By then there were many new frag reviewers now in YT. I started checking out many others. By 2021 it seemed that Jeremy was more a d d and erratic than ever. Finally, in the last year their are so many shorts and uploads per day, there is no way I can keep up with him. This just makes me miss Carlos, he was like the most genuinely nice person in fragcom. He had no snobbery, a positive attitude and seemed to love everyone. I totally remember when Jeremy was nice and checked out other people's videos left comments and was just a nice guy. I thought it was the popularity that started his decline, I think I remember him acknowledging that his opinion could make or break a fragrance, so lots of brands wanted to work with him in any way they could. I just thought he was getting a big ego from knowing how significant his opinion was getting in the community. I can totally see how many in fragcom see each other as competition, and judge one another negatively by their taste. In the real world, niche can be very off-putting to most people, so for my job I need to wear very safe and clean fragrances, as a result I've grown to appreciate the mass appeal scents, and got away from the heavy and challenging scents that will basically sit on the shelf and won't be worn outside of me sitting at home one later afternoon sniffing random bottles when I'm just going over my fragrance collection on likely a sample card or small spay on my hand to remember how it smelled on skin.
@Seasniffer692 жыл бұрын
This is exactly how I feel. I'm just getting into frags and everyone doing frag reviews are like anti main stream frags. Well not anti mainstream but they make videos like everyone knows what the most popular scent smells like. As someone who's mostly never worn frags outside of ADG, voyage, ed hardy, EROS, KCBlack. I have no idea what's what I like fresh frags too. I blind bought 2 frags just off the positive vibes about it and fragranticas scoring. Absolute worst blind buy I bet I will EVER do.

@@Seasniffer69 I can definitely say you shouldn't always go by fragrance reviewers opinions because we're all different with different preferences and many reviewers have so many fragrances that they're looking for something "different" to stimulate them. I've learned the hard way that sometimes that means your average Joe will hate them especially if they say things like "it isn't easy to pull off/wear". Newcomers generally like designer brands because they're mass appealing but often times they get hated on by reviewers with a ton of fragrances because they're not "different". So you keep being you, man. 👍

Great job with this video. I would like to see you do a top 5 of fragrance releases from the 1980's , 1990's and 2000's. Keep up the good work and I wish you and your family the best of luck.

Jeremy is Jeremy and I guess his personality has evolved but I do have to give him credit because he was the first fragrance KZbinr that got me into collecting and woke up the love for fragrances that I have always had. I appreciate your vids and the content of this particular vid.

I'm loving not only the reviews...but these frag stories....this is like a different open topic Convo....I have been fighting with myself at the idea of starting a channel....and I almost feel like.....do I really have something to add. So I like how even if you have a criticism.... it's not negative or cynical

Man I won't lie. I started watching The style OG then Jeremy then a couple others like you. But right now, you're easily the most objective and dynamic fragrance KZbinr. Seems like today's Jeremy is chasing the KZbin algorithm that's all. But your content is often fresh and new and relevant. I appreciate it by the way now that I've gotten your attention *wink* kindly do a list for those of us who live in the tropics and can't keep wearing summer fragrances all year round. Thanks

Like most other people Jeremy was the first youtuber to teach me about fragrances. I still think that no-one can communicate the vibe of a fragrance like him. "This fragrance is for this guy, going to this place, with this feel," etc. Really succinct.

I have a lot of love and gratitude for Jeremy. He really put himself out there in ways most never would. Very honest and unafraid. I respect that. This channel and his are not the only fragrance channels I watch but they are the only fragrance channels I subscribe to. Different approaches to be sure but good content presented by people with a true passion for the content they create

Jeremy got me started in this hobby, i never knew this world existed, then i stumble onto BFL and i was like "theres more of these guys?!" And i was hooked! Jeremy in himself always reminded me of designer frags, jus fun, quirky, trendy charasmatic etc etc, Jeremy IS designer; if Jer was a frag he would be JPG Le Beau, quite literally lol

That guy give me creeps, man. I remember him making a video then disabling the comment section because he’s too salty to receive criticisms. A young man in his teens made a reaction video about it and he has more sense than that creep Daver. To be honest, if he’s the only one doing fragrance review on yt I would still never watch it. The guy is a legit creepy.

People were obviously jelious of him, that was his main problem. 1, Tall 2, Very handsome ex model 3, Biggest fragrance KZbinrs 4, Lots of hot women around him at all times. These things will get anyone a lot of hate. People like to bully behind their little cameras and keyboards all the time, they're pathetic and sad people.

I have watched fragrance videos on KZbin for about two years and Jeremy was the first that I watched. And on occasion I will watch his content, I never had any negative feelings about him but given his numerical success and his model aesthetics, I could see that some insecurities may arise. I enjoy your channels better because of the depth that you provide and the best to you in all aspects of your life.

Its funny that this video pops up because I just watched a couple of Jeremy Fragrance shorts for the first time (have never seen his videos or even heard of him before this) earlier today. I've viewed a few of your videos which have been entertaining and feel authentic whereas the Jeremy shorts felt like they're in a time loop. When watching this video by Gents Scents it made me think of Stradman (popular car KZbinr) who I started watching long before he exploded and he used to comment on all his videos but as he grew in popularity he commented less and less. They style and the content of his videos has changed as well and I don't enjoy it as much as I used to which sounds similar to how you describe Jeremy's popular ascent.

Not just Jeremy but for all of us success, greed, jealousy, envy, you name it and we've all felt it and let it rule our lives at one point or another. If we don't see the signs given to us and humble ourselves, taking it down a few notches, then we will be humbled in some of the biggest ways. It happens to the best of us, Success does too!!

I stopped watching his content a long time ago. But he was the first fragrance KZbinr I found. Because of him I found your videos in recommended. Your by far my fave. But I also found big beard business, curly fragrance, and Cuba. Now I love the whole community. I can’t hate Jeremy at all.

Thoughtful, insightful, authentic, revealing. Thanks for sharing, Ash. When I first encountered Jeremy’s content, he was very different from others. He still is. I stopped engaging him for a couple of years because I found his behavior and persona a bit disturbing. Honestly, I wondered if he needed help. Just in the past year, I’ve begun watching his shorts and while I admire his breadth of frag familiarity, I’ve decided his “brand” isn’t really what I seek. Also, sad but expected to hear about relationship dynamics among frag content providers. I think relationships may be more easily had with between providers who have different brands. Chaos, for example, focuses on designers and is sometimes brazenly ageist. Perhaps someone more sophisticated with a niche focus may form a useful relationship with him, especially if they are under 30. Anyhow, thanks for this. Keep up the good work and I appreciate not only the breadth and diversity of your content but I really like the fact you don’t use nasty language to describe non-GenZ viewers.

I think I talked about this, but I'm not sure it was on your channel Ash, but I've also been around a long time (like you); I've seen a lot of stuff in the community since about 2016, I'd say, and Jeremy was the main one to kind of get me into fragrance when I was first curious about what else was out in the fragrance industry (both him and Kevin Samuels got me started, really) and I loved his passion, accent, and so much about how excited he was and genuinely happy just to share information. He also changed the format of most YT frag creators that had already been on here, making his videos shorter and more to the point and attractive, so people could quickly get information and learn. But once his success got high enough, I think the thing that really got him the most hate was when he decided to start creating his own fragrance and brand...because apart from John Pegg (who left YT to start his brand, Kerosene) no one was really doing that...and for him to have such success and to say, "Hey, I can make my own brand," that set a lot of people off for some reason. People got extremely jealous, especially when he announced that he was working with Alberto Morillas. At the same time, though, I believe that this decision launched a lot ideas for other YT creators to start their brands too, so I think Jeremy single-handedly started that whole movement. And once he started seeing the results and reception to his fragrances (mainly the harsh reviews of his scents), I think he just cracked. Sure he has had relative success with the brand and good support, but all of the fame, the lashing out of him and the brand, the stress to perform and succeed...all of that broke him down...and whereas he was once this charismatic guy full of life and vigor, the pressures of the world and of negative people have beat him up so much, and it is hard to see where he is versus what he originally strived for: just being a passionate guy that loved to look good and smell even better.

I feel like this is what happens when someone looses their way. I haven't watched one of his videos in a very, very long time. I was just kind of getting sick of the intensity of them. I mean, you can have passion, but at some point it just seems put on. I know other people have what they call a persona, but it just didn't feel real anymore. This is what success and money can do to a lot of people if they aren't mentally strong enough to handle it. A good support system can really help with that too, so it's too bad about his brother. I had heard about that before this video, I had actually seen a post on Facebk where the actually brother was introducing himself to the community. I wish Jeremy the best, and hope he finds some peace and clarity and remembers what got him to where he is today. When you are real, or come across as being real vs fake, it makes all the difference in the world. That's why I have so much respect for Ash, it took a lot to make this video. I'm sure he would have rather reviewed the new Polo Ralph's Club or some Middle Eastern juice that will be the next big thing, but he felt it best to clear the air on this. Never change Ash, respect.🙌🙌

I feel like you're really authentic. You're just honest about things and about people. I dig that. I just watched your video about the brands that have black listed you as well. I feel like you're being really transparent about things and it has given me an interesting window into the whole fragrance community that I didn't have any understanding of. It's been interesting. Thanks for being real. It's nice.

I always liked fragrances, but usually was getting them as a gift once in a blue moon. My real love for it started when I accidentally found one of the Jeremy's videos back in 2016-2017, ever since then it's my favorite hobby. Even though I'm not watching him anymore since Office one and Ferrari controversy, I feel bad for what is happening to him (mentally wise).

I've always liked Jeremy's stuff. He and I don't share the same tastes, but every now and then he brings up something that catches my attention, and I actually like the brevity of his reviews. I'm not wild about everything that he does, but everyone's life is a journey, and I'm happy for his success.
