Best wishes on your CRNA journey. My daughter recently got out of bedside nursing after 7 years in ED/Trauma, including a couple of years of travel nursing.

I def do see why people get worn out. So much on our shoulders and sometimes you wonder if what you’re given is enough. I’m in nursing school and I can already see the struggles to come

Definitely take care of yourself and enjoy your life outside of work/school. If you’re in California, it’s a whole lot better than other states. Also, you don’t have to be bedside. You can work outpatient, dialysis, or OR.

Bedside nursing sucks. Even though the pay is good. I fell like it’s not worth the physical and mental health to do it. I think bedside is a means to an end after that they leverage their nursing knowledge in order to get less physical corporate jobs or go on to become a crna or np. I fell like it’s very rare to stay at the bedside for 30 years.

I’ve noticed a lot of nurses go back to school or do something else after a few years in bedside. I don’t blame them at all.

Thanks for the honesty! I’m looking into starting nursing school. I’d like to travel as soon as I have 6 mos nursing experience but I read somewhere that you have to have 1 year or experience in your chosen specialty before being eligible to apply to travel rn jobs. How long did you work before becoming a travel RN?

I worked for about a year and a half! Definitely when I felt comfortable being on my own. Good luck on your nursing journey!

Hi I start an absn program in 2 weeks. I'm really interested in critical care and possibly Crna school. How long did you work in ICU before getting accepted? And did u go into ICU as a new grad

Hey nurse Paul, I’m currently in my second year of nursing school (BSN). I’m not from the US but I do plan on migrating so I can become a traveling nurse. Any tips on how to go about getting a job with being foreign educated? Would I have to redo NCLEX?
@SRNAPaul
@SRNAPaul 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jem, to be a travel nurse here in the US, you would need to get an RN license for the state you will be working in. Every state is different with their rules when it comes to NCLEX. I suggest getting a compact license where you can get a license for most states but the whole west coast (California, Oregon, Washington) and New York are NOT compact states so you would have to apply to those separately. Once you have your license, you can sign up with agencies to become a travel nurse. Most agencies and hospitals will require at least 1-2 years of hospital experience in your specialty. It might take you a year or 2 as a staff nurse in the state you’re gonna live in to get experience and then become a travel nurse. Hope that helps!🤍

I'm applying to nursing school now, and being a advanced practice nurse is my goal. I've always known I did not want to work in a huge hospital, at a super fast pace (in the ICU etc.), or even work as an RN. Are CRNA's, Nurse Practitioners, PA's, Midwives, etc. not considered bedside nurses? Is there a way to be a travel NP, PA, Midwife etc.?
@SRNAPaul
@SRNAPaul 2 жыл бұрын
Advanced practice nurses are not bedside nurses but most programs will require experience before you can get in. I do know some people from my nursing class that went straight to NP school right after nursing school! And yes, I’ve met travel NPs on contracts while I was traveling. I’m not sure if there are travel PA or midwife contracts though.
