In this video, I'll be replacing hood latches on an '05 Rev, and a '97 MXZ 670. Since snowmobile hood latches are made of rubber, and prone to failure, I'll also give you some tips to make them last longer on your sled.
This video is intended as entertainment, always check with a qualified technician or your sled dealer before attempting any of the procedures depicted on this channel.

Not the most challenging job on a sled, but hope there's a few tips in this video that you find useful.

Just to let you guys know some more info, I have a 2005 ski Doo mxz 600 sdi and they sell a whole kit with all the straps and rivets on eBay for under 40 bucks which should work for all rev chassis sleds. I’ve been riding all season and they’ve been great. Also just for those who are wondering I riveted my bottom side panel straps from the outside instead of removing the skid and I’ve had no issues at all but I do understand like he said the proper way from the dealer is through the tunnel side. Just letting you guys know my experience, great video by the way!

Hi Kk. I think i payed right around that. They were about 9$ each and the rivets were 2 bucks. At my dealer. I have seen them online as a kit as well. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Great video Always amazes me how as technology advances things get better right? And yet it seems to make repairs more difficult. Remove the skid to replace hood latches? Brilliant engineering.lol Thanks Dave. God kills a puppy, hilarious.😂

I have a 1982 Yamaha enticer 300 and despite some crappy designs Yamaha used that skidoo didn’t. Like the plastic shroud over the gas tank which holds the choke cable, tether and the ignition (which makes moderate maintenance much more complicated) but back to what i was saying that to change the hood straps you unscrew a bolt and then strap comes off. It’s a good machine but it’s funny they figured out hood straps but not leaving the gas tank exposed.

Every models different. I guess design is a combination or asthetic, ergonomics, form and function. The rev straps are a pain, but I guess its a cleaner look with the rivet hidden.

Great Video, Do you have a part number for the straps, and your mirrors?
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 3 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry for the mirrors no, but there are lot of mirrors on the market. For the straps, go to skidoopartshouse.com I always start there and even if they don't have the part I at least get the number.

My sled you don't need to use rivets or anything... When putting new rubber mounts just squeeze the holding part and jam it through the hole... When I lift the hood up the rubber mounts fall back... And when I put the hood down I just pull on the rubber mounts and they come back as they should... Hope what I'm explaining is making sense...
@MyOldSled

Yours have a little round knob they hook onto no?
@doobyboy21
@doobyboy21 4 жыл бұрын
@@MyOldSled Yeah it's a black screw that the rubber mount holds onto... Once you unhook the rubber mount it moves freely in the hood back and forth

On my 95 Arctic cat the hood latches have lasted the life of the sled now I don't know if they have been changed by the previous owner but the have lasted.
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mat. Those are a lot thicker, similar to the polaris ones aren't they?
@matsottile7718
@matsottile7718 4 жыл бұрын
@@MyOldSled yes actually so that would make sense why they would last longer I didn't think about that
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 4 жыл бұрын
Well thicker than the ones on the 670. The Rev ones are pretty tough. Who knows if yours were replaced, how they were used or stored. All makes a difference.

have you noticed whether the fuel gauge on your '05 is accurate? my '05 500ss fuel gauge is horribly inaccurate. Haven't had the time to research why that may be...
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 4 жыл бұрын
No i havent noticed mine being i accurate, but i think its a simple float mechanism. Something sticking maybe?
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 4 жыл бұрын
I think you can pry it out, if you cant figure it out, a replacement is 30 bucks or so.

Those old hood latch designs were bad. If the sled rolled the hood always popped open and ripped off. Now you just purposely roll your sled when your stuck on a hill drift then get back on and go.
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 4 жыл бұрын
Well i guess they did the job they were designed for. There are a lot of trail riders who will never roll a sled over. Thanks for watching and commenting,
