Yes! The other thing useless how to research videos also do is say, “I won’t show you how I research because everyone has a different way to research.” Thank you for sharing. I think I will share three other methods. The two document method. Research in one doc. Final in other. The Google sheet and with quotes and your comments method. Put relevant quotes in one volume with page. In second Colindale’s say why it’s important. Print out, Read, markup then write the essay. (Might do sheet several times before writing. ) And the three document method aka phd-ish 1st literature review. Paper, author main argument and how it is relevant. 2nd doc mind map of best arguments optional. Highlight and group themes. 3rd write an outline from mind map. Do not delete it. Print out and put on wall or desk. 4th Check order of outline for flow. then copy paste arguments from doc 1 the literature review. Add joining sentences. Thank you.

I have been using mendeley since the beginning of my undergrad so I have a lot of sources in there. I was so annoyed when they removed the app from iPad so have been toying with the idea of moving to Zotero ever since. However the thought of moving all my sources over now I’m at the end of my post grad filled me with dread. After watching this video and seeing just how much easier it would make my life, I have decided it’s worth the effort. Thanks so much for sharing. Love seeing cool workflows and systems like this. When I was working on my Masters in 2019 and 2020 I used Google sheets with query and lookup functions to organize my notes and quotes by themes. When I filtered out to a theme all the research was presented by source in a readable format. Worked well for me but definitely not as polished as this.

Hi Danny, Thank you so much for your great video. It was extremely helpful and amazing. I made a small change in your template, which I thought might be helpful for others. {% if annotation.allTags %} {% set tags = annotation.allTags.split(',') %} {% for tag in tags -%} [[{{ tag | trim }}]]{% if not loop.last %}, {% endif %} {% endfor %} {%- endif %} With this change, all the tags you added in Zotero to your annotation will be added as new notes [[tag_name]]. In this way, your annotations in different papers that share the same tag will be linked to that tag.

I like the workflow, the only thing I didnt is the manual way of rewriting the citations. If its like essay with 2 or 3 pages then alright, but if it is literature review paper in 15 pages length, then I might want to evaluate my options. I found some other tips regarding this problem, on how changing the citations from filenames (Smith2022SomeAspectsOfTheories) into either numbers for IEEE format ([1]) or text Harvard format (Smith, 2022). But it relies on plugins and a bit complicated so if somehow you did not use it for sometimes, you might forgot the process and the plugins.
