A smooth painted surface like that is dangerous, when it gets wet if a car leaves some oil it will be a skid pan.
@claybannermasonry Жыл бұрын
@@jjamespacbell I assure you, that is not an issue. The companies that have been producing these concrete paints for the last few decades have considered more than just the obvious. The surface, even after 4 coats, is still surprisingly rough. And whenever I paint smoother concrete, or concrete that is at a steep incline, I always add anti-skid powder to the paint which leaves the finished result feeling like sandpaper.

Good luck and success with your business...I've been doing spalled or cracked concrete walks, driveways, stairs and walls for 3 decades, here in the philly area...A couple suggestions, which may increase your bottom line and give a better end result. For cracks, up to 1 inch wide. I ALWAYS used mesh tape, embedded in premixed latex patching compound. There are many great, chemically balanced, hi performance, patching compounds in redi mix. I'd suggest using one of those; you squeegee them on..Then an Elastomeric sanded coating applied over; the whole surface; water proofs it and gives grip for tires and they last for years... Good health to you and yours.

Not well. Everywhere there is a crack from slab movement the grout will separate from one or both sides and begin to get crushed. Hard freezes will exacerbate the degradation of the grout. The paint will gradually chip and peel more and more, and make its way into the local water ways.
@claybannermasonry Жыл бұрын
@@reidflemingworldstoughestm1394 I have not had issues with "grout" coming out. I'm using a very strong cement mortar that bonds incredibly well. Some hairline cracks form but those are easily filled with more paint. Speaking of the paint, yes, it will eventually start to chip/peel a little bit here and there, but once it's been repainted a couple more times, the layer is thick and strong enough to last decades. Driveways take more abrasive damage than anything else on a residential property, so it's surprising that a paint can protect them at all. The local waterways contain large amounts of chemicals and oils that come from our cars.
@reidflemingworldstoughestm1394 Жыл бұрын
@@claybannermasonry Concrete is also made with very strong cement. And rebar. Those hairline cracks become the giant gas that you just filled. The original driveway is just as thick and even stronger than your grout, and it doesn't last. Oh, so there's already pollution in the local water, so it's just fine if you add more. Sure. NP. Keep telling yourself that.
@claybannermasonry Жыл бұрын
@@reidflemingworldstoughestm1394 When oil and chemicals from cars no longer pollute the waterways, I will stop resurfacing driveways. Great job, many blessing with your business and on perfecting your craft! It is true in the comments when they say it's important to find what's causing the cracks once you find that, fix that issue, then fix the cracks! Even though you painted over it you can see all the stroke marks of you fixing those cracks were you try to feather it in with the paintbrush! I'm not sure what that stuff cost and how that would affect as a whole I don't know but I would think taking a very small layer and doing the same thing how your painting with this paint do that with the stuff you're filling the crack with just paint it on like you're painting and then paint a small layer on so you wouldn't see those lines

Concrete paint never seems to be a longer term solution as ice and snow easily remove it from the substrate. Of course, it looks great and I am happy that it’s been working for you. I also have a concern about how slippery the driveway gets when wet.
@claybannermasonry Жыл бұрын
It's not slippery at all when wet. The finish is flat, and the rough texture of the old concrete is still very much there. And you're right, it's not a long term solution, really. You need to apply a new coat of concrete stain/paint every 6 months to a year. Driveways take more of a beating than any other part of a residential property. But I think a couple hundred bucks of driveway stain each year is a better deal than spending 20k or more on a new driveway. That's just me.
@robwebnoid5763 Жыл бұрын
@@claybannermasonry ... Would you consider asphalt as a more longer-lasting solution? The only thing I don't like about asphalt is that it is darker, when not painted. Its flexibility is the key of its survival. Unsure how much money it would cost for me though, because my nearly 4-decade old slowly crumbling concrete driveway is long, like probably 5 times longer (but around the same width) than the one in your video.

Skip the paint. Instead, spray down and backroll a solvent-based acrylic stain sealer. Properly prepped and applied correctly, it will last for years before needing an update, None of this repainting every six months to a year. Nor will it be slippery either assuming a rough broom-finished concrete surface. Anti-slip additive is also available if necessary for very smooth driveway/sidewalk surfaces.

I have a sunken driveway. Just upper right side or right quadrant has a negative grade with water running back to my house foundation. Can I overlay it on that side with a certain product that's stable and will hold up to cold canadian winter temperatures with the snow and ice that comes with it? I need to bring that corner up about 3 inches. Something that won't break up or crack or peel?
@claybannermasonry Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! If you have a Home Depot near you, there are cold weather cements/concrete/mortars there. Since you're only going 3 inches or so, you could really use any ordinary mortar. Just be sure to clean the surface well and make a bunch of grooves in it with an angle grinder. Then brush a slurry of water+cement over it before spreading your mortar. After the mortar is applied, screeded, dried, you can brush another slurry of cement over it to really seal it in. I'll have to make a video on that someday. Hope it makes sense :D Best of luck!

Multiple reasons. 1. Street sweepers come through and would eventually mar it all up 2. When it downpours rain, the debris carried by the flowing stream of water that runs towards the drains would degrade the paint on the face of the curb 3. Some people parallel park too close to curbs and smear their tires against the face
