14:04 why does counting what is outside of the intersection work? Is it because this tells you how many use use only my space and not bebo? And then you count how many just use bebo and then calculate the difference? P.S thanks for such a useful video, your advice is a big help.

Hey Emil, after doing a few subtests I have noticed that I have a serious problem with timing and I am really worried about it for the UCAT. Could you please tell me what time management rules you did to make sure you are on track for each of the subtests? I know in VR where you skip 3 passages and did 32 out of 44 questions when 5 mins are left? What sort of strategy would you do like this for the other subtests to make sure you are on track? Thanks so much
@EmilEddy
@EmilEddy Жыл бұрын
Timing approximately: DM, 1 question a minute. QR, 1 question every 30 seconds, a set of 4 in 2 minutes. AR: 1 set every minute and SJT: no real timing

Hi, I dont understand why the syllogism question on the lettuce being either big or green is correct. Either means one or the other but we dont know about the colour of pumpkins nor the size of the lettuce so could it not be big, or green, or both which is not either?

Hi Emil, my ucat is at the end of august and I’ve been doing some questions untimed to familiarise myself with the questions, it has been a bit over a week and I still have around 7 weeks. Do you think this is enough time?
@EmilEddy

It's definitely enough time, focus on getting a practice exam done early and learning skills, rather than just doing questions for the sake of it

Hi Emil, Thank you so much for this great video, it was even more helpful than your old videos about verbal reasoning because it gets more specific about the timing and retention strategies we should use to maximise our score. Could you please answer these questions if you get the chance? 1. What if the 1st question in the passage was able to be answered only using the first paragraph of the passage? Would you finish reading the passage before going to the next question to use retention of the passage to quickly answer the 2nd, 3rd and 4th question, OR would you straight away go to the 2nd question and restart the reading of the passage? 2. This is a similar question but when you talk about the practicing technique of reading the passage in the 1st question but not looking at it in the 2nd question but trying to remember what paragraph of the passage you need to look at to find the info, is this only a practice technique or would you do it in the practice exams as well? Would you only read it once in the 1st question and not look at it again in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th questions because you have retained the information needed for it? Or would you read it in the 1st question and only look at the relevant parts related to the question in q2-4? 3. When you talk about reading a paragraph, covering with hand and recall in a few sentences exactly what the paragraph was about, what paragraphs should I do this for. Are these paragraphs in questions I have already done or new ones? Wouldn’t doing it with new ones be a waste of good practice?

I'm glad you found the video useful, here are some answers: 1. I would answer the 1st question, move to the second, read the second question and resume reading from where I left off in the first question. 2. This is mostly a practice technique, in exams I would have to go back to the relevant parts in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th questions. 3. This technique is for new paragraphs. Most practice platforms have more questions than you could possibly need, so 'wasting practice' isn't really a thing. This technique is more to make people practice reading with purpose

At 14:55, why do you only do 27 + 3 + 4 and not 11 and 5 because they are still in both Bebo and WeChat? (And how did you deduce without calculating that MySpace would be a great number, is it because you count every number in MySpace including ones that are intercepting)? Please answer, would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Emil, I truly find your videos really helpful. Just had two questions: 1. at 6:40, the third statement "The vegetable is either big or green", could it be possible that the vegetable is both big and green, as the stem does not state anything about the size of the lettuce or colour of the pumpkin? 2. Could you please make a sepeate video on probability, as I struggle the most at probability in DM and I'd like to improve that. Thank you

Hey Emil, I have been watching your videos for the past 2 months, and have been finding them very useful. I have my UCAT in a month, so just watned some advice: Would you reccommend skipping all the syllogisms and doing all the multiple choice questions first, or would you reccommend doing the set in order. When you were sitting the UCAT, which question types would you skip, since you mentioned that you would not do this section in the correct order and instead would skip and come back to them later on. Thanks Emil, would really appreciate if you could respon... Have a nice year ahead! :D

Hey Emil, in terms of skipping harder questions and coming back to them, how would you keep track of how much time you have left. I feel like this would be stressful in the actual ucat as you wouldnt be able to tell how many questions you skipped and thus how to pace yourself to be able to complete these skipped questions at the end. Thanks for the help
@EmilEddy
@EmilEddy Жыл бұрын
In decision making, it's approximately 1 minute per question, so keep 1 minute in mind for each question you skip. Develop the skill of understanding how long you have spent on questions by intuition and that will help you. Also note that the end review screen tells you how many questions you have left incomplete/flagged, which is helpful

@15:11 - wasn't entirely sure why you just included 27+3+4 = 34 and concluded C was correct. Could you explain why this shortcut works? How I would have done it: WeChat and Bebo = 27+3+4+5+11 = 50 MySpace = 1+8+2+27+3+4+42+13 = 100 Here, 100>50 so C is correct.

Hi Emil, did you use kaplan as well and if so which of the following would you say are the most similar to the actual exam and in which order: 1. Medentry 2. Medify 3. Kaplan 4. UCAT question bank Do you reckon it is better to study with all of these or would you strongly recommend just one. Also when practicing would you do e.g. 55 qs of abstract (like in the exam) at once or just 5qs at a time?
@EmilEddy
@EmilEddy Жыл бұрын
Medentry is very similar to the actual exam, the rest I can't really comment on except to say that the UCAT question bank isn't particularly good. I'd recommend just studying with MedEntry, I've got affiliate links with them in the description! When practicing abstract, do timed subtest mocks for timing, and 5qs at a time to improve skills

@@mingu6815 Some tips for people who are going to do the UCAT For me I made a revision plan on the 8th day away from the exam, so i got 7 days of revision in, more like 5 because on two of the days i was out all day so i had to just use my phone and i probably only did like 30 minutes of work on those days total. The other days I usually did somewhere around 2-3 hours of work. My score was 2760, and i got band 2. I'm ok with it considering how much time i spent revising. I will say though I dont recommend anyone else to approach UCAT like how I did, because youre unlikely to get the same score, I think im a slight exception because I'm a pretty fast learner and I've always done minimum work and was able to get majority 9s in gcse and predicted all A*s for a level. So I definitely would not recommend anyone else revise for as long as i did, because it doesnt guarantee my score. Also the reason i spent so little time revising for it was because 1. I am pretty lazy and left it to last minute and 2. the main unis im applying to require BMAT, so I plan to focus more on that as the main unis that im trying to get into is cambridge and imperial. If your main unis require UCAT then i recommend studying much harder for it then i did. Hope this helped.
