For anyone wondering how he duplicated/mirrored the ears/eyes/body parts. There's a modifier called "Mirror". He used only the X-Axis and under "Object Mode" clicked "Object" -> "Set Origin" -> "Origin to 3D Cursor" so that everything would spawn in it's mirrored location. Took me like 20 mins to figure out, so I'm leaving this comment in case I forget again lol.

It's physically impossible to create this character in 5 minutes, maybe 20-30 providing you follow every single exact step. That's if you're already an expert at each individual step specifically to this character. This means you'd have to have practiced this same model who knows how many times in order to get it to under 300 seconds, which is just pure insanity. (I'm nowhere close to a professional on this matter, there's a good chance it would be much longer than 30 minutes. Maybe more, maybe less. I'm just trying to use common sense here) He clearly meant the length of the video, which is sped up to 4x or 5x speed. Sorry for the long comment, im just bored

That looks so much easier to do than how I used to have to make models 10-20 years ago - we used to have to create individual vertices everywhere, triangulate them, split edges, and work at the individual triangle level. @brokenboat96553 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure with shorter ones like these, he doesn't worry about it too much. If you really want one with nice topology, which may be useful if you want to import it into a game or similar and need better performance, the process used is called retopology which is effectively where you go over the whole model with a new mesh. This gives you a lot more control over which areas have what sort of resolution but it is a really long, repetitive process. Take a look at YanSculpts' tutorial he did a couple of years ago.

@ArcangelZero73 жыл бұрын
This this this! I'm hesitant to put that much faith in dynamic topology and booleans...and then unwrapping! (unless Yan is oldschool and just uses multi-res only?) I think you're right that remesh is key here. It does create a nice even grid over everything, which would allow multi-res to not produce crazy artifacts and UV unwrap neatly. I think you would have to retopologize by hand if you wanted to make this character game-engine ready though! I'd love to know roughly what his polycount is at certain stages, to be honest... This is definitely "fancy render" workflow as opposed to "game asset" workflow for sure ;)

I struggle with this too, and honestly I think the key is to have fun. Sure we want to show people, but what if we just do it for fun and maybe show nobody? It's only misleading to those that are ignorant to reasonable time frames for sculpting or art in general tbh. It was guaranteed to be more than 5 mins of sculpting just by looking at the model preview in the thumbnail.
@Allahuma.sali.ala.muhammad.3 жыл бұрын
@@magmaslasher7604 it's misleading but not untrue. He did show you how he sculpt a character in under 5 minutes

0:27 How does he apply the color/material to that specific part of the sphere for the eyes? Everytime I try that, it just applies the material to the entire sphere.
@Howard252 жыл бұрын
In edit mode you select the faces you want to Color, add a new material and assign the faces to the new material and you change want you want in the material tab

This actually helped a lot! I normally work in clay, so going digital still feels weird to me. I have to remember to do things like you did, pulling out the mouth area and such. So much easier in clay! But your videos help a lot, thanks :)
