Fellow ballet dancer here and I too darn my shoes. However I tend to darn on the bottom of the platform and just one of the sides (right side for right shoe and left side for left shoe). I find that doing so helps keep me on my box and the darning on the side prevents me from sickling. If I darn the top it pulls me off my box.

A trick for knots is to wrap the thread around the needle a couple times and pull it through. You can start that way and also finish by wrapping the needle close to the fabric and then pulling through.

🩷 You are Amazing dancer! A lot work goes into shoe care! I see a lot of other dancer break the top of their shoes (step on the toe of the shoes to break them), do you break the top part? Why do they break the top of shoe part? I used to dream of being a ballerina 🩰 when I was little, however I’m much older (old lady in her 60s) now. You’re so talented and beautiful young lady and elegant. Thank you for letting us learn about the process of what a ballerina goes through and let us watch you dance. 🩰 Amazing!

Some dancers like their shoes to be a little softer when they dance, so that is why they step on the tops of their shoes. There are a ton of different ways dancers break in their shoes. Some step on them, some bang them against the floor, and some just wear them and mold them to their feet. It just depends on the dancer and their preferences.

How do you remember which is right/left once you figure it out? Can you sharpie it in a discreet spot inside or do you Just Know?
@ChaoticallyHaphazard5 ай бұрын
I’ve seen quite a few dancers mark it with sharpie on the inside

I mean i can feel if they are in the wrong foot. and im usually able to tell which foot by the point shoes shape since mine usually Shapes according to the foot but sometimes i use sharpie too! 😁

Both shoes are made with no specific right or left - but once a shoe is on, you know if it's the correct shoe for the foot, if that makes sense. Every shoe is made on the same last, which isn't a left/right last. 😊

For some dancers, they darn their shoes because it helps them stay on the box, or it helps them roll through better, there are all sorts of reasons. Some dancers don't darn their shoes at all. It just depends on the dancer.

What i dont understand is why dont the shoes come with all the ribbons attached?
@jessicaann-marie23656 ай бұрын
Every dancer’s foot is different and a lot of them are very particular about how they like them sewn in! Saves them having to remove the stitching if they don’t like the position of the ribbons
@PaisleyDoebler4 ай бұрын
Dancers all like their ribbons and elastics in different places because they all have different feet. Some dancers also like the ribbons and elastics angled, or further back, or whatever, so they customize them. It is also not safe for the ribbons and elastics to be pre-sewn. Ribbons and elastics help with support, and every dancer needs support in different areas, so they need to customize their shoes for their own needs.
