How I shocked myself and destroyed my EcoFlow Delta Pro.

I demonstrate how I broke my EcoFlow Delta Pro using a normal vacuum, and the potential dangers of improperly grounded equipment. EcoFlow has replaced my unit, which I am very grateful for. I do, however want to see more safety measures put in place on the unit. Potential modifications in the future to add the safety I want.

Static buildup occurs in grounded shopvacs also. It is due to the air moving through the plastic hoses. Static discharge can cause discomfort and damage sensitive electrical equipment. Special grounded vacuum hoses exist. Some folks add DIY grounding wires to hoses by spiraling a ground wire. Some inverters have neutral to ground bonding relays that kick in when they don't detect an inlet ground-neutral bond. Perhaps EcoFlow should consider this. When unplugged from the mains this relay would close and create the missing ground-neutral bond in the inverter. There are videos covering the issues involved here and various solutions.

Those have no GFCI nor ground - much like small generators lack GFCI. You could add a neutral ground bond adapter and GFCI adapter to protect against a faulty appliances but that won't help with static buildup. This is also extremely common with all power inverters. Ecoflow sells a neutral ground adapter kit you can buy (but it's still not GFCI, that would need a separate adapter). And this wouldn't fix your static buildup. For grounding against static, you would need to have an earth connection bonded to a proper ground rod (not just a neutral ground bond, but a ground rod). The static issue you described is much the same as if your pants rub on a chair and you then touch your computer port can fry things, or getting back in your car and getting out while gassing your car spark causing a fire because there's no earth connection.

You have to take a random plug and do what you did twist green and white together then plug it into one of the front outlets then put tester in it should show its good

This was an interesting video. I went downstairs to where my two Delta Pros are at near my main panel and plugged in the line tester to a Delta Pro AC out port. It showed "open ground" when the Delta Pro was on but not plugged into line input. It showed "correct" with the Delta Pro on and receiving AC input from the house. My understanding is that an open ground is an unsafe condition, which allegedly would apply whenever an appliance is plugged into a standalone Delta Pro. My question is: When the Delta Pro is applying power to an appliance in standalone mode does the massively heavy chassis of the Delta Pro provide grounding like the chassis of a floating neutral gas generator does? IOW, is the open ground not a problem when the Delta Pro is in standalone use?

I just checked my delta pro with that orange tester and it tells me I have an open ground also. What are we supposed to do?

Im pretty sure there is a grounding terminal on the back of your ecoflow

I only use the output from the double voltage hub from my two Ecoflow pros. No problems at all running my whole house.

Ah I'm pretty sure there is a grounding terminal on the back of that delta pro. Just saying.

Things take time sometimes to come out. Playing with electricity is more complex that even the engineers do fully understand. That is why it is a theory of electricity. So many pathways. Issues with cell phones after many years of use having fire hazards. Electric cars sitting idol bursting into flames and bunting down houses. It's still a leaning experience.

I think it would be best not to use the shop-vac with the power bank. Too many variables.

I have my two DP's connected to a Smart Home Panel....will this issue apply to me as well....I soon have an inspector coming to inspect the SHP installation and I don't want any surprises

I also have the same problem as you. I am in the UK and my tester tells me the AC out is incorrectly wired, let me know when you get a solution.

I got an RMA replacement from EcoFlow via their support line. The video was filmed with the replacement unit as an example.

I’m so confused. Can someone explained what’s going on? From what I gathered, and guessing… the dust, wind, dirt, is causing an electric shock from the outside of the unit? Or is it the vacuum that is plugged in the unit? Sorry, complete beginner here

He basically built up a static charge in he’s body and touched the power station shorting the electronics. Maybe he could wear a static strap when he’s vacuuming ?? Will Prowse has a video he blew one of he’s Ecofows through multiple ground fault paths while charging he’s Tesla

I work with industrial CNC machines that run all day. One time someone put some metal on the dust collection system tube and I accidentally touched it once. I've never felt such a powerful shock before. And I've been on trampolines all my life. It also made a audible noise so loud it made some of the almost deaf workers turn their heads. If this piece of metal was connected to a large array of metal going inside the ground outside the building. I'm guessing it wouldn't of made a shock, or at least dampened the effect. I'm not sure how static electricity travels, or why it likes to flow into the ground. So I can't really give any further explanation on the phenomenon.

@@plokijij7856 So it shorted by just touching the plastic housing? damn that is delicate and expensive, they need to redesign.

That happened to my my delta also. The screen went crazy. I ran it to zero and it reset.

When this originally happened, it was at a low state of charge, and the screen was also acting weird. Took mine apart and noticed a fried components on the DC-DC board

You are giving to much information to Ecoflow creating this content. You should just replace it and use your warranty. Just saying because sometimes you give to much information it might void warrenty.
