Dude! I live in Virginia and I have a McKays really close to me (like 10 minutes away) and I always go there for some music, sadly for the metallica stuff all they have at mine for CDs are the shitty albums load and reload and st anger, but they did have a sick ass slayer show no mercy Cd which ended up being way to expensive but they do still have a load of cool stuff.

It's cool to see a mom and pop shop like this. We had disc replay in IL only they kept the disks behind the counter so you didn't know what condition the disc's were in until after you bought it. Sadly my car has no cd player which is a shame because there are alot of albums I wanna listen to that aren't available on streaming or YT.

I went to school in Greensboro, Mckays was a cool store to go thumb thru if you knew someone with a car or had one to get to it. Mostly I remember it for being the spot to go to that would buy your textbooks for more than the campus bookstore would/sell you used ones cheaper. Also funny you mention My Morning Jacket and Washed out, both were really popular in the early 2010s when I was in school. At least among the Tate St hipster crowd. They used to play on campus radio all the time too, saw Washed out at the Blind Tiger once, My Morning Jacket played at the Coli too but the $60 in college was too rich for me. If you’ve ever seen the show Portlandia you’ve heard Washed Out before, their song Feel It All Around is the theme song for that show. This video brings back some memories lol

We had Vintage Vinyl in Fords, NJ. Sadly, they are no longer in existence after 42 years. They seem to be very similar to McKays. Although it was about an hour drive for me, I would frequent there often. They had bootlegs, crazy hard to find metal albums, one time pressings of CD’s and vinyl, toys, movies and etc. They had a stage in the back of the store and they also had meets and greets with bands from time to time. That is where I met, The Man, The Myth, The Legend - Peter Steele and the band Type O Negative. I had them sign their Life is Killing Me and World Coming Down CD booklets.

I LOVE McKays. It is literally one of my favorite stores to shop for music. Sadly, I won't be going to one again for a long time. The McKays i went to was in the same city that my ex lived in (Chattanooga). Me & her had a lot of good times in that store, so I can imagine it'd be pretty depressing now to shop there without her. My favorite record store when I was living in Portland Oregon was a place called O Zone’s. They used to sell everything from Industrial to metal to alternative rock to punk. Their local music section was killer because you would see TV:616 (Portlands version of NIN and Skinny Puppy) right next to the Wipers, Big Daddy Meatstraw, and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. I went back a few years ago and they closed down the store. I still miss that place.

There have been two times that I've seen metal on the shelf. First time I saw Ministry (Psalms 69 to be exact) and I was so excited to pick that up after my shift, by the time I got off I went to go grab it only to find someone bought it before me! Another time I saw King 810, I was once again excited because of how incredibly rare it was to see metal. I checked to see how the disk was only to find it was totally empty! Either the processor didn't check it or someone stole the disk out of the case!

I love going to record shops and stores like FYE that sell music, unfortunately for me since moving to Louisiana, as far as I know if I want to get music in person or see a concert I have to take a 2 hour trip to either Lafayette or New Orleans.

Finding a Boys 2 Men CD in a Guns n Roses case reminds me of the time I found a used copy of Slowly We Rot (at a music store in a different country that doesn't sell used CDs) and found a Lighthouse Family CD inside when I got home. That was largely disappointing.

There is a small "record shop" in my town, but in terms of rock and metal, it most of the time sticks to popular bands like Kat, Nocny Kochanek, Rammstein, AC/DC, Metallica. Like ok, I can get Exodus on the website of that store, but I wish I could just walk into the store, pick up some Death or Megadeth and walk out. Also, I wish I had a Megadeth CD that isn't a remaster. I accidentally bought the remaster of So Far So Good So What (my first bought CD) and now I'm a bit disappointed

@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack now that you replied, I checked the website and it turns out they have non remasters of Megadeth I should see what they have in the shop, maybe I won't be disappointed this time, although I will be disappointed if I see no Persona Non Grata this shop sells sealed cds

Unfortunately, my city only has a Rasputins/Mad Monk. The selection is limited and sometimes poorly sorted (For some reason Megadeth and Metallica are labeled rock while Slayer, Volbeat, and Exodus are Heavy Metal.) I mainly have to shop online cause they rarely have what I want, including new releases, and a ten minute drive there just isn't worth it. We used to have a FYE but they closed down and now it's a fucking furniture store. I love cd shopping but both the selection and order is shit. They take in used CDs as well which vary in quality. I got Far Beyond Driven there and it was scratched as hell (why the fuck did they even sell it?). Long rant aside, I still love/hate tracking down rare CDs and stumbling across random Metal acts I've never heard of before. Its how I discovered Havok, Warbringer, and even Decide.
