Tip: use a Post-It note to mark the beginning point. They measure 3”x3”, so it’s easier than counting.

I love A Stitching Shop. I live in Boise and have not found any store like it nearby. I will always get my large aida from them....It is so worth it. They are lovely people with quick and great customer service.

Have the fabric and pen sitting here. Pattern picked out. Need to get floss so I can do first full coverage. Think I’m going to show this to my husband and have him grid my fabric. I know me, my lines will be wavy as f* 😂 I can’t imagine trying a full coverage without grids.

Thanks for putting this together! I always start in that top left hand corner...my mom? Always in the middle! I should try measuring from the edge sometime. I always count up and over from the middle, using extra needles to help mark 10/20/100 stitches. (I don't grid...I can't draw a straight line, even with a ruler...but I do use a marking pen to mark where a page ends!)

I hate this part. I got a sewing gage with the slider and measure 10 holes set slider and comes out perfect every time.

My grandma taught me to fold the pattern in four (on a full page one, not a multi sheet one). And do the same with the Aida cloth. And that's where she would start. As then won't hit the sides. I like her way as the hoop always sits best when centered. However I love the idea of marking grid lines with a washable ink! So smart. I started a large one a couple years ago and have just started on it again and realised I'd miss counted the non stitch areas (it's almost full coverage but has a few patches that are no stitch around where I started). Luckily I can fix it as the area has lots of mixed colours and is just snow and shadows. But for next time I'll definitely be premarking the cloth the match the pattern grid! 😊😊😊😊😊

So with litter colors how do you make sure it does not come through......and would thread work?

I have been gridding my projects. I used a frixon pen to grid one piece that I spent hours upon hours sewing. The marks have REappeared. I had tried washing the piece, using a product (forget the name--begins with an M) that says it will get the marks out, and finally I dabbed peroxide on some of the marks. Not working. I am sad and disappointed. I have no clue what the solution is. I did do gridding with regular embroidery floss, but that didn't work well since there were too many places where that became embedded in my stitches. This weekend I gridded using Sulky thread. Hope this works.

Putting it in the freezer/fridge will cause the pen marks to diseappear. :)

I’ve tried to grid and it’s not for me and on the flip side I’m willing to spend a few more dollars to get the pre gridded fabric because it’s a real game changer ! :)

It's a different pronunciation. My grandmother says it like that. It was nice to hear, reminds me of her.
