Pro Tip! This is an Adam Savage tip that changed my life. When you have the garage workshop style drawers for small pieces, take one out and glue it to the front of the drawer as a sample piece. Then you know immediately at a glance what is in that drawer.

Same here. However, it gets worse for me, as I have a massive, gigantic mound of Bionicle MoC's in a few bins that I'd like to find a better system for. Unfortunately, all sorting guides are for parts only, not finished builds.
@an87908 ай бұрын
I have a small plastic box with smaller compartments where I can put the pieces I've used if I don't feel like sorting them right after a completed building session, an intermediary station, sort of. I do the sorting later, while listening to a podcast or something, and I find that this helps my small space from feeling cluttered without the annoyance of having to clean up right away. And it also prevents pieces that I am procrastinating to sort from collecting dust, haha.

I use coffee cans for my earth colored 1x2 plates, and one for my 1x2 earth bricks, Rubbermaid for filler brick, and I got Tupperwares for water, and stone details, organizers for rockwork and grass slopes, and ziplock bags for bulk color, box for minifigures, furniture and accessories . I use cooking sheets and backing pans to spread the legos so I can easily dump it back in the bags
@emf3218 ай бұрын
Its simple really. Most parts you first sort by color. Then you sort colors by plate or brick (parts mostly taller than 3 plates). Then you sort the bricks out between slopes and normal bricks, and the plates between tiles and normal plates. There are exceptions, like brackets you sort out from other types first, then you sort brackets by color and different bracket type. That's it mostly. I clip most of my parts together to keep the space they occupy very small, and its easy then to see how much you've got. Either that or i put each part in a small plastic bag, and the bag in the container/container section. If you buy on bricklink you should have thousands of tiny plastic bags by now.

i once used recyclable plastic tubs, like that ones that barbecue meat comes in like Lloyds. bear in mind they are microwaveable, so buy a large capacity label maker and print out the type of Lego, that's in the tub, like studs or bricks, to prevent someone from microwaving what might end up being a super hard to replace color. trust me, it's happened.

Off topic to the video but, With LEGO doing that D&D CMF and having realistic flesh tones for that, do you anticipate switching your character flesh tones to the realistic ones? I kinda wish LEGO kept the yellow personally to help fit other medieval sets.

@Goldfyre8 ай бұрын
Yeah I wasn't very clear with what I meant. I was mostly referring to the plastic dividers inside. Those get really expensive as you scale up. Cardboard dividers are the way to go imo
@robbiedobbles8 ай бұрын
@@Goldfyre that's a fair point. I actually recently noticed that the Ikea containers that most people use in the Alex drawers were on sale. I stocked up on them for 30 to 50 cents each. I think they might regularly be a dollar each which is decent but not great. I use the Sterilite medium drawers for storage (used to be pretty cheap in a 4 pack at Walmart) and the NOJIG containers aren't a super exact fit, but they are serviceable for the price. I have like 36 Sterilite units that house most of my parts. Subdividing them has been an ongoing challenge, but I am decently happy with where I am at now.
