Hey Y'all! Just wanted to say all the books I mentioned are in the Description box.💛

Thank you so much for expanding on the differences in the old vs new Reader’s Digest sewing books. I’ve heard from several people that the older one is better, but they don’t usually tell us why. I appreciate your explanations for all of the other books as well. 👍

I loved this video. Very informative, I have been sewing for years, self taught but now I want to slow down and improve my knowledge on sewing so I can sew the patterns that I have been running from. One of my goals for 2024 was to improve my sewing skills. In fact, I paused your video and went online and purchased the 1981 edition of the Reader’s Digest complete guide to sewing. I’m so happy you did this video in the beginning of the year, because I can now address my number one goal for this year. Thank you, great video!

I am a self taught sewist Can I just recently come to the decision that I am not going to stay a beginner sewist. This video is right on time. I am doing most of what you are doing.😊 By the way, I am Zelda!😅

Really appreciate this video. I took fashion design classes 10 years ago and just picked up my sewing again. Didn't know it at the time (cause I didn't read it much 🤣) but my Reader's Digest guide is sooooo helpful! I'm subscribing!

I have a few of these books and I agree that they supersede looking up videos. Sewing school in a book indeed! I also trace my patterns for the same reason. My body will change!

Excellent review of your library of sewing books. I have a few of the books but I’m mostly interested in pattern drafting books and tailoring books at the moment. I love having a book in my hand to walk me through skills. I’m off to check my library because I certainly don’t want to buy a book twice😊 thank you!

I just wanted to mention that I, too, have benefited from several sewing books. The Palmer Pletsch series has been VERY useful to me. Also the Vogue Sewing book. I also have found the 1977(!!!) book by Lawrence/Yurick named 'Sew Smart' is an excellent resource. I found mine in a thrift store. (It is spiral bound.) It is a gold mine of information...

Thank you! I love learning from books. It's just something about reading and doing that seems to imprint on me better than watching sometimes.

Okay, I have always wondered how a self taught sewist like you is able to draft and sew all the beautiful pieces. Was particularly curious when I saw your last video. Now I know your secret ❤ thanks for sharing this informative video xx

Thank you 💛 the pattern drafting books definitely helped me figure out how to reverse engineer designer clothing

This was a wonderful review of your sewing books! I left that ultimate guide to sewing book behind once at the thrift store and now I’m kicking myself! But I’ll keep looking!

I hope you find it because it truly is my favorite book!

Lmfao you’re just like me for real. I just started buying all the singer when I first started sewing because I thought they’d be cool collectibles… as well learning tools. I think I have all of them. 😅

Thank you! This is encouraging as these type of books typically intimidate me. After hearing you talk about them I want to give a couple a try. I imagine the couture finishing techniques might be longer lasting? What have you found? I'm sure I saw the older Reader's Digest book at a library sale last year. Now I wish I'd picked it up!

You should definitely get some! I use a lot of the hand sewing techniques from the couture books when I use nicer fabrics. I usually hand wash those clothes and they've held up pretty well. I also like their closure methods more and the way they show garment interiors ex: I learned about bra strap holders from them which I want to put in all my sleeveless clothes now.

Hi I'm just meeting you and I know it's been about a year ago or something why do people trace their pattern onto another sheet of paper
@MadebyChann4 ай бұрын
Hi welcome! Thanks for watching💛 ! a few reasons you want to trace patterns, if you cut it out and change sizes but want to make it again you probably have to buy a new pattern. Also if you make any modifications, to the pattern it's better to do it on a copy and not the original in case you want to start over. I admit I only trace my paper patterns or vintage ones. If they are PDFs I have no problem cutting them because I know I can print a new one if necessary.
