I see people handle mags when they’re in bags/boards and they touch the spine. I always wonder why they grab the spine, I would think it puts creases in it and kills the grade. No?

It can, even if they’ve been bagged and boarded. It’s a good idea to get every issue pressed before grading, that take out many flaws like bends and creases

I’ve always been told that gravity can pull on them over time and create spine roll

Those UV holders are a great idea pretty cool looking! In the late 90's I went to a Dr's office and he had framed old SIs all over the walls. I'm gonna guess it was flourescent lighting but it was lit up real well and the fading was obvious. I'm not sure about artificial light being able to fade them, but my guess is yes. CGC should offer UV slabs as an upgrade!

Question! If I have a Sports Illustrated with the tear out sheet still in tact how can I best preserve that sheet within the magazine if I don't want to tear it out? Should i put some kind of plastic in between the sheets of the magazine and then store it in a bag with a board? I just want to ensure the cards don't warp or bend because the cover of the magazine and the first few pages aren't perfectly flat and im afraid over time its going to warp the rest of the pages!

What do you mean by a tear out sheet? Are you talking about the 1954 issues with the sports cards inside?

@@cgcsportsillustrated5290 No just a regular Sports Illustrated! I mean like the tear out sheet of cards that comes in some SI Issues.... specifically talking about the Wemby issue/card sheet. I want to keep it uncut and as nice as possible but I'm afraid the warping of the magazine is going to affect it over time.. could you possibly press and SI Issue that has the tear out cards in it or is that risky??

@@chrisjohnfloraok, so you’re talking about SI for Kids it sounds like. If they’re warped already, yes I’d be happy to press them. If they’re not warped, you should be fine as long as it’s bagged and boarded and stored in a cool, dry place.

@@cgcsportsillustrated5290 I think I might be a great candidate for a press! I’ve seen your other videos and I think that’s what I need. However, I’ve done a lot of inspecting and the Wemby card does have a small surface crease like right in the middle of the card so I’m not sure it even holds the value I thought it did. So next question… If I sent it to you, could you assess that damage and give me your honest opinion? I’ll still pay for your expertise even if we decide it’s not worth pressing. I want to say the crease can be ironed out but I’m no real expert, I just like to collect so please let me know what you think my options might be!

Hi Jim-when you put your magazines in the bag and board do you use a piece of tape to seal it up etc?

Most people don’t recommend using tape as you really don’t want anything sticky near your issue. Either get the self sealing bags, tuck the flap in or just leave it open is best

CGC magazine holders are horrible! I am not a physically strong guy and I just cracked one (with a Playboy magazine inside) after just giving it a little squeeze! I see a lot of other people complaining about this online as well.

Yes, the current magazine holders are not good. CGC is supposed to be upgrading them to better versions in the coming months
