I've also been studying drawing, it's a lot of trial and error, and you have to draw and erase, draw shapes and then draw on top of the shapes. When you go to paint, you have to decide what the shadows are going to look like, what colors to use, where to put the shadows. It's really hard, but extremely satisfying to be able to finish a drawing and like the result.
