How I Studied for (and Passed) the FG ASBOG Exam

It is hard to know how you should study for a standardized test you've never taken. In this video I share my advice on how I studied and passed the FG on the first attempt, and what I wish I would've known before walking into the test room.

Thank you for the helpful video! I’m hoping to take this exam next year. I feel like I’m somewhat disadvantaged because I didn’t have the best geology classes and entering covid times while in school meant I never had a chance to do any of these “6 week geology camps” and what not I’ve heard about. I do have an advantage though, due to my love of mineralogy and the years I’ve spent collecting rocks and learning about them.

For physical geology I used: open.umn.edu/opentextbooks/textbooks/269 and for hydrogeology I used: water.lecture.ub.ac.id/files/2012/03/Book_HydrogeologyFieldManual-2ndEdition.pdf Both are really great tools especially if you want to have something explained a little differently!

This video was very helpful! I plan on taking the FG exam in Oct. Do you know if there is a set amount of attempts for the FG exam? or just keep retaking until I pass?

I have read studies about ASBOG passing rates that reference people taking the exam 5 or more times, so I do not believe there is a limit. Glad it helped!
