Hi, I think this is a really important topic, but just to say that a Learning Disability is anyone who has an IQ

it can still be classified as a disability

@@catlady27Sure, dyslexia can be classed as a disability under the Equality Act 2010. But the video doesn’t refer to it is a disability - it refers to it as a learning disability which is an entirely separate entity with its own definition. Dyslexia is not a learning disability. It can be a disability.

It seems you have a disability. Dyslexia is one of 7 main learning disabilities classified by the top 3 disability organizations in the United States. You can make up what ever lies you need to, but you're wrong.@Gnjsharma

I'm also in medical school and I'm pretty sure I have ADHD. Seeing this video and relating to it as being the "slow one" in class hit home hard cause I felt like it was out of my control but seeing you soar above and beyond and meet the challenges of medical school inspire me to push through.

Lovely video. Thanks for sharing your perspective and being honest about your struggles! I do think it's important that this video is titled correctly though. Dyslexia is a learning DIFFICULTY, rather than a learning DISABILITY, the two terms have slightly different parameters, the main one being that learning disabilities affect IQ while learning difficulties, like dyslexia, don't. It's important these things are labelled correctly so that people can understand the differences between the lived experiences of people who fall in either category. Hope you have a lovely rest of your week, though, you're doing an amazing job 😊

Thank you for making this video. I found it really helpful in understanding the challenges of dyslexia. One of my new lecturers at uni is dyslexic, and he is just brilliant at his subject specialism. It's great to know that it doesn't need to hold you back academically in any way 💖💖💖

Brilliant video Anna!! My little sister has Irlens syndrome and she always thought she was stupid but she has proven herself to be the complete opposite!!! Thank you so much - especially as someone else studying medicine - for highlighting this topic because I firmly believe that often the people who have their own struggles are the people who will make great doctors because they can actually relate!!!

Thank you so much for this video. I am a first year medical student who's also dyslexic and find your channel really positive and helpful. I find anatomy really hard and it definitely takes me longer to learn things than most people. I find seeing someone who also finds it hard, for the same reasons I do, getting through it very uplifting as I often think I'm just never going to know the anatomy I need to know. Thank you for all your videos; I have no idea how you manage to run a channel and do medicine too! Good luck on your medical journey!!🙂

This is the best video you made so far. I’m a grad Med student in the Uk and been diagnosed with dyslexia last month at the age of 23. All my life I was terrible with my spelling and just thought I was stupid, so I had to work incredibly hard to get good grades and get into Med school. I would say to whoever has a learning disability not be discourage from reaching your potential. I would say dyslexia is a neurodivergent condition, and not a disability, it the society we live in that makes it disabled.

Hi Anna, I love watching your videos but just hoping that you acknowledge and inform others that Dyslexia - as others have also commented - is a learning DIFFICULTY and not a learning DISABILITY. People with a learning disability can also have a learning difficulty and vice versa, but It is extremely important that people are aware of the differences, and especially people in the medical profession. It would be nice to see an edit in the title/description just so it is correct and others aren't misinformed! Hope that this is helpful! x

I feel so emotional watching this video. I was only diagnosed with dyslexia last year (when I was 19) and for the whole time before I felt so stupid! Especially going to a grammar school where everyone is on top of everything, I always felt 3 steps behind. I only got 25% extra time for my UCAT when reapplying for med school. I recently have got rejected from my med schools for the second time and I'm feeling super low about it, especially because a big part of my dyslexia inhibits me from communicating coherently and when you mix that with interview nerves... not good 😭 I know I will eventually get into med school and become a doctor but lord am I deflated. Do you have any advice (sorry I know this is a lot and quite heavy)?
@annarebecca2 жыл бұрын
Oh thank you so much for sharing your story. ❤️ No one should ever feel stupid, everyone is amazing in there own way. I’m so sorry you’ve been rejected it’s so hard but it’s all a learning experience. If you got to interview I’d recoupment this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGe8i4KgrLegesU and I have a few more videos that should help. With communicating I always find having little flash cards with bullet points and hints to sentences helps me. Then just not being afraid to pause and think before speaking. Hope this helps Emma and please don’t give up, everything happens for a reason and your get where yours supposed to be in the end 🥰 xxxx

The colored plastics sound interesting and will have to try it. I have a processing difficulty, every college test I've taken ended with being completely drained and feeling as if I was hit by a truck during the test, but loved the knowledge otherwise. It's likely related to my six hundred vision and tend to get overloaded/exhausted. I'm starting a sign language class next week and trying to prepare everything to become ready to handle it. Hopefully the six months of independent learning will be enough, it's the second class of two and I'm skipping over the first.

The colored overlays do help a lot, thank you~ I had some old plastic file folders, the green and yellow are really light, and they totally cut down the intensity of the paper, and at a certain distance even make the text a lot bolder.
