Almost no protection for the volunteers, while I applaud their work but they really need to understand how to deal with bed bugs and I hope they don’t accidentally bring the bugs or eggs home or accidentally spread the infestation to the neighbouring units. Just a few cans of insecticide as seen in the video does nothing, needs professional pest control.

I hope they can convince the building community to do a thorough bedbug assessment because they travel and migrate. If you don't get rid of it entirely, it will only come back or affect someone else in the building. They should also fumigate the items that the old man wants to keep to prevent a relapse.

Bless these volunteers, it’s really hard to deal with the stubbornness from hoarders or usually generations from the baby boomers and above, they’ve been through a lot of hardship and are unable to deal with the mental capacity of getting rid of their personal items whether useful or not and it can be really really exhausting trying to convince them to dump them, let alone clearing this huge mess. It is very real when a visibly shaken old neighbour actually expressed her worst fears of the bugs crawling into her well kept house after observing record numbers of Cecas moving into the block. Of course this does not concern the PAP ministers, many who live in spacious surroundings and hardly even see their neighbours.

Bedbugs are like Hotel California. Once they check in they will never leave. Had the misfortune of bringing a couple (literally) home in 2016. Since then I’ve moved twice and I’m still experiencing occasional bites today! They itch like crazy and the scars are fugly and hard to fade. You may think treatment solves it but it doesn’t affect the eggs. When the eggs hatch the cycle begins all over again. The eggs are so tiny it’s impossible to find them. Every year as soon as the weather gets warmer the eggs hatch bites appear and I treat. If I’m lucky it ends there. Till next year. Rinse and repeat till all the eggs hatch!

Its crazy to me that the volunteers were willing to do this, hope they took proper measures to avoid spreading it to their own abodes. If any one gets gets a bedbugs problem at the early stage, diatomaceous earth(basically like powdered version of silica gel) is the answer. I got bed bugs from resting on a couch for an hour in NS and it was hell, waking up at 4am with 4-6 itchy bites on the back everyday wasn't fun, the buggers were so tiny they're practically invisible. Tahan how long they also won't ever leave. Diatomaceous earth takes a while to work since it kills the bugs via dehydration and depends on the bugs walking over it, it wouldnt make sense to put powder on the mattress either. Had to surround my bed with the powder like its some kind of satanic ritual and use a garment steamer all over the mattress for a solid month hoping that smothered all the eggs to death. How the brothers in the video managed to endure this long is beyond me, I probably only had 4-5 bedbugs in my room and was already losing my mind, while these guys probably have hundreds. Their tenacity to endure is amazing.

People see this and think it won't happen to them or their parents. But honestly i see so many older generation are simply unable to see past their 'set ways' & admit that they have a problem or need help. The difference is that it comes out in other aspects of their life even if they are financially secure. Ageing gracefully is a skill, not an entitlement.

Those bugs will be back within a week, these people have absolutely no idea what they're dealing with. This is not a job for volunteers solely, they need professional exterminators to apply pesticides on many different occasions to even have a chance at tackling the problem. They also most likely inadvertently spread the infestation through their clothes unless they stripped down immediately after and threw them away in a dumpster. These are not your average bugs; they are absolute hell.....
