Here are the subtitles as the video has no subtitles: "Hi everyone. Today I want to talk about how I switched careers from law to software engineering. So a few years ago, I was working like a lawyer but for a long time I was no really happy with my career but also I didn't really know what else I should do. So quite incidentally I watched some KZbin videos and I stumbled upon coding there. And, yeah, I was curious to learn more about. Shouted and I started to learn HTML and Javascript. After learning these for a few months, I decided that I really enjoyed coding and that I wanted to make this into a career. So the next step was to think about how exactly I would do this. So in Germany, you have different path you can take to educate yourself and one possible path is an education, which takes place at a company. So usually this education takes about three years and it is like, that you work for the company so you have practical faces and also you have theoretical phases. Which can take place at some kin of school but it is not a university. It's like some kind of school. So this is what I considered first because the good thing is that you get paid. And so, yeah, you don't have to worry about your expenses. An education in Germany, you have for this is called (--german words--) it's like education for a programmer for easily translate it. Yeah, and I decided to apply for this first. And I was looking for offers for this education, but at the same time I found offer for dual studies for software engineering which would be an alternative path, and yeah, about dual studies. But this is that you also work at a company and you get paid for the studies but this time the studies are at the university. What I did before I applied, I created a single website and put the link to this website in my application. I think in general, it's a good idea for an application to put in a project you made which you can show to your employer. I got invitations from two different companies and then I got the offer for a dual studies with software engineering and in parallel, I'd still the invitation process from the other company but then I cancelled this one because I wanted to make the dual studies. The study program was like this that my studies were in the Netherlands usually for four years, but because I already have a law degree I only had to study three and a half years so yeah I studied there and then I had also practical semesters at my company in Germany. In January of this year I've finished my studies and since February I'm working at my IT company where I made the studies. If you want more details about my studies I have a playlist about this which I will in my card and also in the description box of the video. If you have any further questions, please let me know in the comment section. Thank you for watching and have a nice day! Bye."

I completed an honours degree in medieval history and then went back to study computer science. I ended up doing a Master's Degree in Information Security, graduating with distinction.

@@Lumary it's called a Bachelor's in Technology in CS or CSE degree, which is same as a BS degree Computer Science, that's 4 years after 12th grade.

Stumbled across your video and loving it! Such a source of inspiration 😃 : I am in the same process and as I am advancing in learning the basics of HTML/CSS/JavaScript I am blown away by the possibilities allowed by coding; it's true when they say the only limit is your imagination! You did wonderfully and I hope to do the same within the foreseeable future! Which recommendation will you give to someone to start making him/her self appear on the companies' radar ? Vielen danke @Lumary 🙏😊

Hi I also live in Germany and I was not happy with working as a Paralegal (I have a law degree) I have been learning web development since end of 2019 and now I have an interview for a web developer job. I think that for web development they are less strict about requring a CS degree?
@Lumary3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Sorry I dont know if employers are less strict in that case.good luck for the interview 👍

First year software engineering student and my mind has been stuck btwn 2 things for now, 1.shld l drop the degree and focus on the certifications alone since certifications are short when it comes to time ? 2. Which one is an advantage having both degree and certificates or l shld jus let go and continue with my degree ? Will be grateful if you answer my questions
@cephas20092 жыл бұрын
You can do all at once. Certfication tells the world you are competent in certain skills. Degree tells companies and potential clients you are capable of learning and teaching yourself to advance.

Hi, its difficult to answer without more details, but in general with a Software Engineering degree you are on the safer side. Some jobs have a degree as a requirement, so you will have more options then. You can still acquire certifications in parallel to your job later, as these normally dont require as much time as a complete degree program.
@rmholdings76592 жыл бұрын
@@Lumary will keep on doing my degree and do these certifications

I would love that to work and study at the same time, where can I find companies that offer that? PS thank you for your videos🙏

Hi, try searching with terms like e.g. 'Studium dual informatik' 'duales Studium Software Engineering' 'Ausbildungsplatz fachinformatiker für Anwendungsentwicklung'. :)
