It feels good to hear it from an Indian, knowing I am not alone who likes Neovim.

The title is misleading. You're not talking about Neovim vs VSCode at all, but only about Neovim config set up and such

... until u have tto actually do something more than trivial with it.. like use the language as coding language in a game engine :D anything feels great when you write hello world or a config with some api also vim and emacs is just a cult... there's literally nothing what neovim can do.. that vscode cant be configured to do... plugin ecosystem isnt even comparable... i just use vim modes and motions in vscode... and perfectly content with it . instead of coding ur literally trying to configure or write ur vim configs all the time... dont get me wrong... it alone can be fun... personal customization is always fun... my point is this "neovim is better than vscode" is cultish and zealot behaviour.... some of the oldschool coders literally moving over from emacs and vim to vscode instead , ever wondered why ? ur nvim distros etc... mean actually nothing , just shows that script kiddies... u never worked as DevOps obviously... otherwise you would know, that in many prod , progressivness like that is not allowed ... u have literally barebones in the system , vi or vim... not even fzf ... and if u dont know these tools, you cant do ur job and fired.... :D when u ssh into remote, its fine... but u wont have ur flashy nvim in prod system

@Microphunktv-jb3kj so... what does all this have to do with my comment?

Even though, the power of vim is in its flexibility and configurability, maintaining your own setup is a pain. It is fun when you do the initial configuration. But then some updates will require changes, or even break your complete setup and you'll have to dig in again. There are many starter frameworks these days. And in my opinion, NVChad is just a bad choice. I'd recommend you to look at the LazyVim. It has a decent functionality out of the box, but when it comes to extension, it's just a normal lua configuration, without any custom schema or anything. You're just basically overriding the default LazyVim configuration.

There are many good guides for Neovim setup with different approaches. I have watched many of them and taken bits and pieces from each. Really enjoyed the Primeagen guide and TJ's one-video guide (which uses kickstart), but the configuration in the video series linked below from 'typecraft' (minus the colorscheme choice) is probably the one that resonated the most with me recently. (I have been a Vim user for ~20 years but converted most of my development tasks over to a Neovim workflow over the last couple of years.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHm3lnaJi6Z5hLs

I recently jumped into neovim because I needed to switch up as I have been coding all day everyday on a big project and my wrist was killing me by the end of the day from using the mouse and jumping back and forth. Not to promote someone else's channel, but just to help out I found Josean Martinez 2024 nvim video to be by far the best on YT. You will get a good setup but also learn enough to start doing things on your own which is what I did. I am sure this channel will do a pretty good one soon, the production quality of this video was really good. I'll even subscribe to help support. FYI, I also setup my VScode to use vim motions with the vscodevim plugin. I am loving neovim, but I am still much quicker for now in VScode because of the familiarity, so for main project work I am still using it but with vim motions installed and a bunch of configs for it to make it feel more like neovim. Good luck. It's a rabbit hole, but a fun and cool one if you are into this sort of thing. Using nvim reminds me how I felt going from PC to Mac a long long time ago, it's just more enjoyable to use from my perspective.

reserve 5 hours, and read/modify kickstart.nvim from top to bottom, it's unarguably the best way to onboard

2:35 - i think vim was forked, because it was literally personal config of some dude, not general purpose .. utter stupidity to make ur own language, to config vim... it was forked to not use some esoteric flawed language like vimscript + no gpu accel support (i might be wrong) .. if u want editor wars... i can guarantee you , emacs is the best in objective terms of performance , ever tried to open a large project in neovim? i mean like google orga sized company level projects... :D nvim just gets crushed by emacs
