Also, I forgot to make clear, having an HRV out of range DOES NOT mean you'll have a bad performance. In fact, many people set their best performances with an HRV score that is lower than their typical range. What an HRV outside of range (for more than a day) really reflects is your ability to recover and get positive adaptations FROM a training session. So while you may be able to perform great that day, you'll be less likely to get positive adaptations from that performance and will likely take much longer to recover than you would if your HRV was in a normal range.

I used a free app a while back that also uses the phone's camera and flash and found it highly inaccurate. I wonder if HRV4Training does better or if it's just the limitation of the hardware and my interfacing with it. I found I had to hold very still and repeat several measurements and often they would still change wildly. I've gone back to using my watch to track HRV.

hmm... its been great on my end in terms of accuracy, but I know they underwent multiple studies to ensure its accuracy. 🤷♂️ www.hrv4training.com/publications.html

Great video! Quick question, what would be considered out of the normal range? Should we be looking at a percentage off the norm in either direction, or a ms amount higher or lower? Thanks!

thanks, Hrv4Training gives a personal range after it collects enough data.. it might depend a bit on where you HRV is (for example if your average is 50 your range may be 42-58, whereas someone with an average of 80 might have a larger range of 66-94). But generally I think your average HRV over the past 4 weeks + or - 10 is pretty close for most
