For anyone reading comments a year later- I just wanted to say that I had radio frequency done on mine (possibly the same thing she talked about in the beginning-electrolosis). I walked out of the appointment feeling like a freak bc I had a lot more than I thought, and it brought all of the oil to the surface as a scab... Well, fast forward and they are completely gone and I've never loved my skin better! If I get anymore I will totally have this treatment done. It was only $150 where I went too (best facility here in Nashville imo), which I thought was a very reasonable price. Good luck! ❤️

rf is the best way to go as it destroys the sebum gland which is the source of the problem anyway. 150 usd seems super reasonable. I just diy my sh with plasma pen but that only flattens it not necessarily treating the source of the issue. i will look for rf in my area for my large sh and plasma pen diy my smaller ones

My dermatologist did a needle cauterization on my SH, which is mainly on my forehead. Paid $150 and that was over a year ago. Best $$ spent!! To keep the SH in check, I use a BHA toner pad every morning after cleansing, then a BHA gel a few mornings a week. At night I use Retin-A 0.01 (highest strength) 4 times a week. Also, I stay away from creams on my forehead that are occlusive. I was told that genetics play a role in SH. Oily skin problems when I was younger, BUT no wrinkles at age 68.

I was diagnosed with this about a year ago and had a couple of them frozen off. But I've noticed over time I'm just continuing to get more of these on my face. I used to have bad acne as a teenager but this is worse because you can't get rid of it. I have tried retinol 1% which hasn't done anything and I've even tried retinol with acne over-the-counter acne medication on it which helps a little bit. Thank you for your video I'm going to try some of these products here.

Hi Melanie i had noticed these bumps on my face the doctors always just blew me away saying not to worry just sun damage and aging. I noticed them coming out in the summer and they were not noticeable in the winter. When I started with retin A I couldn’t be happier they started disappearing and now my skin looks great. I noticed recently that i am getting them on my earlobes! Guess i have been missing the area with my retin A. After a week of using the retin a on my earlobes they are diminishing. A weird fact in my family is that only the blondes with light skin have these bumps where the brunettes in the family who have a darker skin tone don’t have them!

Oh, thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou for doing a video on this! I've been putting up with these buggars for years and didn't realize there was a way to manage them. My mom is a mean old soul, and as these have been getting larger, she's started making rude comments on them, too... she can be such a bully. I've seen a dermatologist for them once before, but the dermatologist just told me it was expensive to get rid of them, that insurance usually won't cover it, and dropped it there. I don't even know how much it costs to do the needle thing. But with my mom's latest comments (she can be so horrid), I keep thinking I would need to go again and find out exactly how expensive it really is. I happen to have some Salicyclic Acid 20% Peel by Perfect Image (different brand), but I've been putting this on once a week using the directions. I will have to try it the q-tip way tonight. I also use Retinol by SkinMedica, and I use it every other night, but I've never seen any results from that. Will consider the other treatments you mentioned as well. Thank you again for doing this video!!

Cheri B. -Your comment brought me such sadness because of the abuse from your mother. It is NEVER ok to be treated that way, and especially not from someone who is supposed to "love" you. You may not be in a position to where you are ready to cut her out of your life yet, but you should at least address the mean and hateful comments she makes towards you. The next time she says something unkind, maybe you could say "I am sorry you are not happy in your life, but that is no excuse to take it out on me." Or perhaps, "Mom, I am beautiful just the way I am." She is obviously trying to tear you down to make herself feel empowered, which speaks to how truly sad she is inside. If you are close enough to her that you know WHY she is so unhappy (death of a spouse, child, or health issues, etc.) then maybe you could try to address that. Unfortunately, I was raised by a stepmother that was the same way (she would even make rude comments about my beautiful children on FB until I blocked her.) No much matter how much positivity I tried to spread her way, it never worked. Sometimes, you have to just accept that this is the path they were destined for, but you don't have to be on that path with them. Thank God that you didn't turn out like her, and then move on. Life is such a beautiful gift, so please don't ever let anyone take your happiness from you!💕 Have an amazing day!

Hi Melanie. I, too, started late in the skincare game. Always had those "bumps," and thought they were just stubborn pimples that had no opening. I went to the dermatologist, and she did an electrodessication. I had many-over 20. Once they scabbed and healed, I started using CeraVe SA wash, and I do believe it has prevented them from coming back so far.It's supposed to be able to down into the pore, so I'm guessing cleans and prevents the clogging. I also use an Alpha Hydroxy lotion to seal the deal--it penetrates the skin because is has a very small molecular size... It's been 3+ years, and I only have one on the side of my nose (sigh!) now.

Great video. I have a similar system of using Paula's Choice 2% Salicylic daily & her 4% twice a week. I find if I use the 4% more my skin over reacts & I get super oily which is a shame because the 4% zaps white heads like nothing I've ever used, but it doesn't last more than a day. I also use Glycolic acid pads from Serious Skin Care on HSN. I figure the Salicylic goes into the pore to reduce the sebum, but I also want something to exfoliate my skin so the pore doesn't close up & so Glycolic. I've been using these pads for years and they help with the flattening & if you get ingrown hairs they're a must. I really rub them into my bad areas...kinda physical exfoliate with the pad. HSN sells two 60 pad jars for $36 & the pads are so big and juicy that I cut them in half. And I also use a metal loop extractor weekly to clear out sebum from my pores in my areas of concern. I use Clarins Normal to Oily face cleanser, a dot, to wash my face after makeup or when I feel oily because this has cottonseed oil in it and really removes makeup and oils, but rinses right off otherwise I use CeraVe foaming cleanser. Once or twice a week I use Josie Marans facial scrub. I keep eyeballing the Clarisonic.

Look up skin classic. It’s not expensive like lasers. I got it done two weeks ago and it was $200 for 30 minutes and I had her test it on my forehead. I didn’t realize I could get rid of them. I went to a medspa and had an esthetician do it. She also used the skin classic for sunspots and showed me where she’d used it on herself. It does scab up and they say don’t pick and be careful about the sun but I love the results.

It wasn't until I went to a dermatologist (for something else) l knew what i had. My dermatologist said," I know you came in for something else but I must remove those bumps." He used and still uses a miniature electric needle when i go. Originally I went in two or three times a year to have the procedure done. Now I only need to go in once a year. I have to say my skin is better now then it was when I was in my twenties. I have had many strangers compliment me on my skin ( no lie). I have had them since the age of 18 Melanie and I am 43 now. However i don't have them due to sun damage as I was told infants get them and they have had no sun damage. In my opinion it affects people with oily skin and I have had oily skin since puberty and my chin is very oil hence the hyperplasia. My skin is clear elsewhere. In my head I imagine these abnormal oil glands more like a 'stalk' and not flat (as normal oil glands) should behave so should they be cauterised they will grow back again.

My derm has said the condition is an abnormality of the oil glands, they are large, hence they protrude, Mine were less apparent/flatter ( only have them on my chin) both times when i was pregnant as my oily skin became more normal. I have been advised certain light treatment can make them go away however as they are stubborn they could return. Plus there is a risk of pigmentation post treatment. Using a facial device like Foreo makes them worse as in more visible. Nothing I have tried in terms of acids/retinoids works. May try Adapalene though.

I presume they could make them worse as in 'stimulating' the oil glands hence make the abnormal oil glands biiger. It's fine, but I can see the little bugger trying to make its way back. I told my husband that I might just have him do the surgery and slice it off! 😉 however maybe the retinol that I just started using might keep it at bay. I also have the Paula's choice bha

My sister claims that hers went away when she had to quit dairy. Not 100% sure that she had the same bumps as these since I never noticed them on her. Her skin looks really great now, but I am curious if everyone who has these are big dairy consumers. I really don’t want to give up cheese if I don’t have too.

dcgreen2 whenever I eat dairy like yogurt cheese or ice cream I noticed that come out on my cheeks more than usual. I was thinking, is this my imagination can this be true. I sort of don't want it to be true because I love ice cream. But yes your post really validated me that yes when I eat cream dairy especially heavy cream it does make me break out with these

I have a really bad hyperactive sebaceous glad right next to mid nose to the left of my face. I almost had the dermatologist cut it out. But thought the scar would be outrageous. Nothing…I mean nothing has helped. I’ve been using Rx Tetinoin RetinA for 2 years now and thinking of doing laser treatment.

I ended up doing plasma pen for mine. It worked! I have a video on my channel about that. If you can find a practitioner that uses plasma pen and get them to use it on your SB you might have some luck.

Can you please update how your sebaceous hyperplasia is doing with the salicylic acid 20%? I’m already thinking ahead if the Paula’s choice does not work I need to graduate to something else. These things are literally making me crazy as you know.

20% works but its incredibly harsh. Too harsh to keep up. It dries the skin out too much. I will use it once very couple of weeks with a q tip to apply just to the spot. It helps to keep it down but does not take it away. So far nothing takes them away. Just makes them look smaller. Which I am fine with.
@torilee276 жыл бұрын
MrKongsMom thank you I just don’t understand because one day I didn’t have it and the next day I did and I thought it was just a pimple so I kind of ignored it and now it’s just taken full residency on my face I’m just so depressed over it I know you understand but it’s really starting to affect me.

Have you seen a derm? They can be "zapped" but its important to know they can come back. Some people have them stay away after treatment while other's get them back so you have to be careful when weighing the investment. Make sure you are ok with possibly having it done multiple times. I hate mine, but so far I have found just keeping looking smaller is ok for me. I may pursue further action in the future but right now it just is what it is and I am ok with it. My dermatologist also told me retinol or a good retain A can be very helpful. Perhaps go and get a prescription if you have not?

Also its super important to wear sunscreen every day! These can be created because of past sun damage. That is one of the potential causes. Genetics also plays a role but protecting your skin as much as possible can possibly prevent more in the future.

MrKongsMom I had some other skin issues that I kept getting second and third opinions for and while I was there I showed each of those dermatologist this event as hyperplasia spots and they all said it was 100% hyperplasia and there’s nothing you can do about it none of them told me about the needle method. I don’t really know what to do for right now I’m using the resist I do think it’s getting a little smaller but I don’t know how yours is but in certain light it looks bigger than another light and it bothers me I never know what it looks like the people

Actually there is a tool that can help with hyperplasia it is called a mole remover pen and it has these little needle things you can screw into the end of it you screw that into the end of the pen and turn the pen on and stick the needle into the pore and it'll zap the oil gland and it won't come back I had one on my nose stuck it in that pore really didn't hurt much at all and the pore and oil went away

I actually had the Plasma Pen treatment done in office to finally rid myself of mine... but I would NEVER recommend doing it at home. You can very easily scar yourself and that scares me big time. The esthetician I went to took great care to make sure there would be no scaring afterwards. Totally worth it!
@loufuddrucker3913 жыл бұрын
@@MrKongsMom well I bought one of the mole remover pins because I had a large pore on my nose I mean it was pretty big always got stuff in it and I got tired trying to figure out some way to get rid of it so I got this tool the mole remover pin, screwed on one of the needle attachments and stuck the needle into the big pore,wiggled it around a little bit, the next couple days it was gone it was flat it was empty and I never had to look at it again
@caravanrose3 жыл бұрын
@@MrKongsMom I wouldn't recommend people do it at home either but I did and it worked fabulously so far and I am very pleased with the results! Some of the larger ones will need an additional treatment to become completely flat. Some are gone entirely after 1 treatment. So pleased!

Yes, I have one of these and I love it! But definitely if you don't have a steady hand and patience to go slow, you can scar yourself. My method is to not try to remove any bump all at once. I VERY gently burn off a super thin layer, just the very surface of the skin of the bump. It makes a thin scab that heals in a few days. Once healed, I do it again. It can take weeks to remove a larger bump but I haven't had any scarring. (This was all explained in the instructions too)

MrKongsMom I did watch that video! Sorry! I guess what my questions is I have watched a few videos on differin so far but I was wondering in what step of your skin care do you apply? Before your moisturizer after like dr dray says? Thank you for taking the time to read my comments!

Yes, before moisturizer :)

What about differin gel? You mentioned in a past video that you thought it was helping. I think I may have a few of these on my left temple area. :(
@MrKongsMom6 жыл бұрын
I think the differin helped a bit with them but I didn't use it as long as I have been using this stuff. I will buy the differin again but in a larger tube so I can use it for a longer period of time. The first tube was pretty small and didn't last super long.

My doctor refuses to refer me to a dermatologist because it is cosmetic. I have asked twice. No dermatologist in canada accepts new patients without a referral. I have also checked amazon and none of these products are available in canada. I contacted a spa like my doctor suggested and they wanted $250 just for a consultation. Looks like there is no help available in canada unless you are rich.
@MrKongsMom Жыл бұрын
I am so sorry to hear that. I ended up having mine removed with a plasma pen. You can order these on the internet but I will warn you, its not a comfortable treatment and the risk for scarring when doing it improperly on yourself could leave you with a bigger problem after. BUT, I did have mine treated by an esthetician who offered plasma pen. Could you look for an esthetician? I am not sure what the rules are in Canada for esthetics but worth a look?
