Imagine if you could wake-up everyday excited about the hours of studying that's to come and maintain that feeling. Sounds impossible and to be honest you’re right. We just can't be happy about doing something we don't really want to. So, the only way to get us excited about studying is to trick our brains into actually wanting to study. This "want" or motivation to study will allow you to not only study for longer but importantly will allow you to be happy whilst you do it. So how can we go from totally disliking the idea of studying for hours to actually being excited by it? Well, by using an understanding of how our brain creates motivation. Scientifically speaking, motivation provides an activation and direction to our behaviour towards a reward or away from a negative punisher. So if you want to feel motivated and excited, there needs to be a reward at the end of the tunnel or a punisher chasing you from behind. In this video, I'll explain how I used the idea of rewards and punishers to trick my brain into wanting to study. I did this mainly by creating 3 levels of reward: short, medium and long-term. I unfortunately also used the concept of punishers, but this can be a very dangerous route, creating anxiety and worry if things don’t go to plan. And finally, I talk about the concept of habit-formation, which essentially bypasses the need for motivation. This can be a very powerful way of automating your day. #motivation #study #work #exam
