I love that you can talk through color but not through ink. This composition screams at the Sunday Comix lover in me, that feeling of definite colors, and the broad black lines. Verrrrry interrrrrrresting....🥰🥰🥰

Oh wow, you’re going to give away the markers….that’s awesome!!! Pete, this really helps me with composition. I struggle with it sometimes. Thank you for the instruction. I too like to know what my composition is ….Often it runs off on it’s own 😮 OMG I like the way the markers seem to cover well…may have to try some markers, I have used white ones .

Composition is often all I think about. Even if I don't have a specific composition in mind I am always thinking about how to resolve the shapes so they are pleasing to my eye. And sometimes mine run off the rails too. No big deal. I enjoy the whole process. 🙂

Love this demo! I've used alcohol based markers recently to colour in a drawing of mine. A friend commissioned me to take one of my black and white drawings and infuse it with colour. Through trial and error, I finally figured out the colour scheme-- I'll share the image on your website soon. Also, I have used the markers on regular canvas that one would normally paint on, acrylic or otherwise. It was need to see how well it worked for me (I guess I can share that one on the website, as well, lol). The ink does bleed through most paper, so having something under the paper to keep other blank paper safe is important. A contest?
@carmenvalentic66034 ай бұрын
By the way, the paper I'd used was a thicker paper from a Staples store's copy center since I'd made a few prints of my original drawing. Funny thing is is that I then took the final coloured in version and had a few enlarged prints of that.

I enjoy using markers, I just wish they didn't fade as easily as they do. I bought some watercolor markers that use some more normal pigments for that reason but I find they are not as smooth as the alcohol markers. I'd love to see more of your work. 👍🏻

Regarding composition, I don't always know what I want to do either. Most of the time, I just start somewhere and go from there. Other times, I decide before I start, such as making it centered and linear (made a drawing that went from the bottom left corner to the upper right corner and a different one that was horizontal, and all just to see what it would look like).

That's a good way to start. 🙂

@@IllustrationsByPete so I have put some thought into this. And I guess at least sometimes I do think about composition. I often use the rule of third but didn't realize that was a type of composition. I often place what I'm drawing(doodling) diagonal across the page. . I found a little reference for types of composition. Now I want to try them all. Lol

It's kind of like how a person who can't read music and doesn't know music theory (all me) can still write a song. The only reason the theory is there is because that is what is pleasing to look at so an artist naturally creates in that way. The art came first. 👍🏻

Alcohol marker is tied with watercolor for my favorite art supply. I wonder how Hotu compares with some of the other brands, especially at about half the price? I have a 36 pack of Copics, and then about 200 other markers, mostly Ohuhu, and I'm fairly certain Copic is the only brand that color matches caps and it isn't worth the price difference to me lol. Ohuhu is starting to carry open stock as well so maybe other brands like Hotu do too. My most favorite thing is you can use alcohol marker and watercolor together without either moving the other on the paper! Extra cool glazing effects, just watch out with using really absorbent paper because it'll suck the markers dry (which is much less painful at Hotu prices than Copic prices)
@IllustrationsByPete4 ай бұрын
Copics are ridiculous. Especially with all the others that do a great job. I have never put alcohol marker and watercolor together. I've used pigment marker and of course watercolor markers. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks!

Composition is super important to me but I don't do abstract often so I normally start with a dumb idea (like a deer skull on a man's body, his name is Deerek), and then use composition to Try to make it work (the moon is silhouetting Deerek's head). Now I have to try it the other way 'round.

Usually I have a rough plan of what I want to draw or paint but I allow myself to deviate from that first idea. Alternatively I sometimes just color in something someone else drew, like a coloring book. After having watched you "play" with the markers I feel the need to use mine - before they dry out 🙂 It's a shame that so many scammers are out there that you'll have to make an extra video to announce the winner 😞 I see that quite often, some "telegram" channel with a name reminding of the channel's name but a tiny bit off, I believe it's easy to fall for that if you aren't "suspicious by nature". Just to be sure: I DON'T want the markers - I have to use the ones I have and I'm not based in the US 😁 Thank you for the video 🥰

I think it's so frustrating when I have art supplies I enjoy, like markers, and I go to use them and they are dried or expired. I've had that happen with pens, markers, and even some watercolor paper where the sizing went bad. I need to use my markers more. 👍🏻
@35345384 ай бұрын
@@IllustrationsByPete Yeah, I just checked all my pens and got rid of the ones I couldn't refill. I have no idea why I got them all in the first place, I guess I did some "retail therapy" 🤣 Nowadays I just enjoy using my stuff, the outcome isn't important. Having expensive paper get bad is really frustrating. I now only buy what I need and use the old paper for making collage paper or something like that.
