How I Used the Canon SL3 with the Elgato Cam Link!

Hello Howdy folks! Gaming ... look I am having trouble with auto shut off and I have the settings described here. (thank you BTW). I have noticed that the firmware version for my sl3 is located in function setting 5 when in camera mode and not when in video mode. I happen to have the 1.0.1 version. There is an update to 1.0.2 and perhaps they corrected but i suspect the problem is there. AND as I suspected updating the firmware to 102 did the trick. So your settings and the 102 firmware did the trick. it now runs forever. I hope this helps your followers Cheers

Elgato incorrectly listed the SL3 as not working. Canon made the SL3 and M200 to work with live-streaming with a dummy battery. The SL2 can work, however you lose autofocus.

Hi all, so I have the EU version of this camera the eos 250D that shipped with v1.0.0 of the firmware, which does not even have all the settings that are shown here ! So to some time, update to the latest 1.0.2 (at the time of writing this comment) and then reset your settings also, as I have found some settings in other shooting modes to somehow conflict with what needs to be done in this video. then follow his steps here, the important setting is the HDMI clean display (not verbatim I know) that will in turn set the auto power off to disable. I have now tested this for close to 3 hours, with a generic hdmi cap device and seems to work well.

@@matejiljazovic2584 update to the latest firmware, and follow all of the steps in the video, to turn off the details there is a button on the top of the camera labeled "disp" hit that and that will turn off. That was the only thing I found that was different in this video. the other steps worked fine for me

@@bvnesta just tested the autofocus, and it seems to work, although seems very slow for my liking so I generally stick to manual focus. Let me know if you want me to test anything else, I would be happy to help where I can !

I am a newbie but this was so helpful because it made realize I have different menu options because I was in a different mode. I put the camera on manual (dial to M) and then I got the same options. Hopefully this comment helps some other newbies. I also updated the firmware, but I did that first so I don't know whether it mattered. BTW I am making physics videos for my students and I'm realizing the best gear is the stuff used for streaming. Theoretical astrophysics livestream anyone? (lol)

As long as you have the HDMI info display set to Clean HDMI, the LCD will remain on

Hello so the kit lens is probably going to be your best option for the versatility to zoom but honestly any lens works, the 50mm lens or even the 35mm could prob work too.

Hey! I use the sl3 and the camlink every day for my YT channel and it is an amazing camera, it's amazing to me that not to many people are reviewing it or talking about it! I've had never had any power off while recording/streaming. What does happen it's that the screen shuts off but since I am using it in obs it's not a big problem! Do you run your streamcam clean in 4k??

@@IFlip4wins I can but its not worth it, mainly for 3 reasons. 4k streaming is not really necessary, with all the compression that the streaming site puts on your feed the whole aspect of 4k is missing, there is obviously the fact of internet bandwidth but we’re not getting into that. Reason 2 the SL3 provides clean 4k output but applies a crop factor into the image and that can complicate camera placement ect. also, you loose canon’s dual pixel auto focus which is in my opinion the best. The camera has a hard time focusing and it can be a headache. And finally I mostly stream games and usually with the exception of intro and outro I’ve got a facecam layout which takes less than an 8th of the screen. Once again you can have a clean 4k stream from your SL3 if you wanted to.

My camera is on M, and still I do not have the HDMI info disp option on the 4th shooting setting slide .. My camera keeps shutting off after 30 minutes, well not shutting off but basically cutting off the recording when streaming. I dont understand ..

I’ve never recorded directly to the camera while using HDMI out, so I’m not sure about how to overcome that one. As for the HDMI settings option, make sure you have it set to Video mode as well as M. If it isn’t there, it might be worth checking to make sure you have the latest firmware, and also try cycling through the other modes.

when using your camera with the elgato link, are you setting the camera to the recording setting or just the on position? If i set my camera to recording I get bad resolution, but if I just turn it to ON I get a better resolution, I copy your exact settings in this video

Roy Z I’m not super familiar with either. I’m using the DeckLink Quad HDMI with a EDID passthrough from Amazon. I might make a video on it because it’s the only way I’ve found if making the camera work with the DeckLink.

Hiya! I'm having issues with the delay - Camlink 4k, Canon Sl3, OBS, Loopback w/Saffire Pro 40 audio interface, Mac Catalina. I've tried adjusting the "sync offset" in OBS in the "advance settings" of the Loopback/saffire "audio input capture", but even though I bring the offset all the way to 9999 ms there's no difference in the delay. Any thoughts? Thanks.

The LCD will stay on for a bit, but it will go to sleep after a while. However the camera will continue to output through HDMI. It might be possible to change this setting on the camera, but I’ve not tried as I do not use the viewfinder.

I use a variety. Right now I’ve got a Canon 40mm pancake lens on there (or 50mm…? I cannot remember). Basically look for something with a wide open aperture so you can get as much light in as you can. That’ll give you a nice blurry background and reduce any noise in the image.
