As a backpacker, I wanted you to know that the Hollow-fiber membrane in your water can will be damaged if the inside of your van falls below freezing. The following is from CNOC "Hollow fibers filters' biggest Achilles' heel is freezing conditions. Because filters actually have water in them, when that water freezes it expands in the hollow fibers and splits them, essentially ruining the filter."

Dang that’s disappointing. I usually keep the heat on if the van gets much lower than 32F

@@JustinTheVan Sorry to be the bringer of the bad news. I did not want you to rely on the filter if you were going use stream water. I do not know how to get it tested or what to look for to see if it was impacted. I'm sure that the filter was the main cost. We (backpackers) sleep with our filters to keep them warm. All the best.

That’s very good to know. There is a way to check how well the filter is working in its manual
