I still like both but definitely lean heavier to punk

@supergaugesicht9981 Honestly its pretty much harder to find bands that haven't taken at least some indirect influence from one or the other than not it seems. since about 1986 at least.

I listen to both and everything in between.I feel like they go hand in hand

To some extent I believe you are correct. They are the main two I listen to but everything in between is cool too. Every genre gets some love

Honestly getting into punk shaped my whole childhood, as I got into more heavier and heavier genres, and especially the themes, the lyrics, and the heaviest of it is what got me into it, and then I got into hardcore and stuff, then grindcore, which grindcore actually became my most favorite genre of hardcore and metal, and tbh I tried to go into making my own stuff too and shit. Can't believe that getting an genre just shaped my own interpretation of what rawness, intensity that music could have in general, and the communities surrounding punk, some are actually probably the nicest people i've met so far.

I started with both punk and metal but ended up leaning way more punk as well! So I feel you. I prefer the straightforward raw, rough buzzsaw strum some quick chords sound of punk. I prefer the loose just yell it out vocals. I prefer the imperfections. I like high energy vibes more than groove. Metal comes more from blues/hard/psych rock than that classic rock n roll like punk. Buut I prefer the groove of lets say, funk if id go that route. I relate more to it thematically as well. Metal often has this layer of separation of intentionally campy horror or fantasy/sci fi stuff. To me its often just kinda cheesy. But with punk its mostly just some guys saying things directly. Maybe not in a deep way but it's cathartic and relatable. Metal can be very intense but its much easier for a slightly less intense punk song to resonate with me as impactfully tense due to the emotion being so grounded. It just his harder in a less is more kinda way The only problem is that punk is limited. It gets repetitive more quickly. Theres a reason most branch out to more melodic stuff, metallic sounds or post hardcore. Plus, youll wreck your vocal chords eventually. One thing I think is interesting is how motorhead and venom really bridged the gap in approach before all the major hybrids came around.

Motorhead and venom definitely are the bridge and I have plans on making a video about bands like them

@ZacharyTheJackal ooh nice! Oh and we can't forget amebix ofc!! If we Don't only count records
@ZacharyTheJackal4 күн бұрын
@diydylana3151 while they do bridge metal and punk I would say it is different then how motorhead or venom did. Amebix did it in the way that started the birth of the crust punk movement

@ZacharyTheJackal Yeeah you're right thats why it didn't really come up in my head initially. But I was like wondering when they changed to that sound. As the first eps in like 82 but 1979 demo sounds like anarcho punk/post-punk. The 82 one has hints of it but the album doesn't ome out until like 85. You'd be right its a bit closer to like, the true metal hybrids to come later. I find it interesting how motorhead bridged the gap without even trying. I believe lemmy when he said it was just rock and roll. They were just rocking hard in a way that lined up with punks their attitude as well as what metal would end up doing, while influenced by both rock sounds of what punk and metal were influenced by. It was a perfect inbetween. And I still can't get over venoms later song "long haired punks". Its clear they applied the sex pistols rough, sloppy attitude to metal. I dunno sorry for gushing I just think those two bands were ahead of the game theyre so cool all the punks and metalheads can agree on them haha. Plus either genres were so influenced by em. Especially the UK stuff seems to put in a lotta motorhead.

Idgaf about genre. I guess I align more with idol, but purely because I like girly music, and there aren't many places that have harder music thats also girly. Outside of idol there aren't a lot of women in general and the ones there often sacrifice the girlishness for the edge, or the edge for the girlishness. I like mens junan by jun togawa, specifically the 2016 version featuring vampillia. Much girlishness, much edge, need more

@@ZacharyTheJackal yeah i get it,i started got into punk from a Vh1 random commercial which was Ramones -I Wanna be sedated. + Even on punk or metal are still some elitists,on metal sides are more ngl.I like to find new punk bands too, weather is local bands or from other country. Punk as whole is fine ,i like my punk vest too but since punk is how you express your mind to have free thinking. And like metal I like punk subgenres.From Oi to anarcho-punk so on.

this is a great transition story. i love metal but am way more punk. it's freer and more outspoken. metal can be more corny and edgelordy.
@ZacharyTheJackal5 күн бұрын
I agree although I feel that for some bands they should apply some level of theatrics that metal has as it would make for a memorable show. A band that does this very well in the punk world is radioactive chicken heads
@singsongshow5 күн бұрын
@@ZacharyTheJackal that's fair. although they're not punk, the aquabats were the "ska" version of KISS. Seeing them was like a Saturday morning cartoon. I've been to plenty of punk shows and like you said, non had the theatrics of metal. Completely agree.

What about GrindCore or MetalCore? Idk can’t we all just be friends?

Grindcore and crust/stenchcore are a perfect example of a genres that represent good marriages between hardcore punk/anarcho punk and extreme metal.

I agree plus I'm pretty big into grindcore myself. Metalcore I like some bands but I'm a bit more picky when it comes to it
