Hi Brandon, I really enjoy watching your videos :D I am from Hong Kong and I will study civil drafting at TAFE Brisbane in July this year . Could you please share more about the job websites you used to find job opportunities and provide some guidance on how to prepare a portfolio? Thank you !
@BrandonSayasane9 ай бұрын
@@RingoShiu-cv1xr Thanks for the feedback. In regards to where to apply, I recommend checking out Linkedin, Seek, Indeed and directly on engineering companies website for job opportunities. In regards to a job portfolio, I didn't have one and in future roles I didnt really have to showcase anything (Interviews were more personality based but was asked about how I would setup drawings or automate tasks. Definately learn more about AutoCAD? Or microstation? To be able to use the basics. A good bonus to mention in drafting interviews for entry level is "Keen to learn to automate work through Autocad scripting and lisping".

American here👋 great video ! Just informing, I’ve been denied from multiple “entry level” drafter positions with an associates in drafting and 2 almost 3 years of experience under my belt on top of that. The job i currently have is contracted work for a big oil company and i have no benefits besides 40 hours of accumulated pto a year. Getting jobs here has been rough in any career. Still trying to get into civil drafting though.

@BrandonSayasane2 ай бұрын
Well technically as drafters we don't design anything. We merely present the engineers and designers designs in a drawing that is indsutry accepted. And obviously the engineers and designers review our drawings to make sure their designs are presented correctly.

Which are best construction companies to work as Civil Draftsman in Australia
@BrandonSayasane4 ай бұрын
@@uzairGoldfort I've been at a couple and they've all been pretty good. Things to look for is 37 or 37.5 standard work hour, remote working flexibility (work from home), company provides work laptop and decent salary. The larger global companies tend to provide this.

Hi so just confirming you were able to land a job without prior experience or qualification of civil engineering at all? And then the company even paid for your education? That's really generous, os it that common in this field? Are you an Aussie citizen?
@BrandonSayasane4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes I am an Australian citizen. And yeah I only required to have highschool certificate to get into the Cadet/Apprentice role. With the company paying for education, yes they do but to their is also tax incentives for the companies to hire "Apprentices" or Cadets set bt the government. Cost of TAFE for the Diploma I think is also much lower than a University degree. (My previous company would pay up to 50% of your University though). For drafting, it is actually very common job position to have the Apprentice or Cadet position (most of my mentors started that way as well) but it is a limited number available. Most companies usually only hire 1-2 apprentice level drafters every year. Though the last 1-2 years its been tough in the industry as many projects have slowed down or been scrapped.

Hey @BrandonSayasane, Thank you for the video and good info you shared. What programs beyond AutoCAD are used more often? Like Revit or Civil3D? Thank you and best wishes
@BrandonSayasane4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. So I guess easiest way to explain it is that if you are a Civil Drafter you will mostly use AutoCAD and if you are a structural drafter you will use Revit. For me personally since I was training to be a designer/modeller I was learning how to use 12D which is a design software made in Australia. I used a little bit of Civil 3d for creating longitudinal and cross sections of existing alignments and to create contours from LandXML files but day to day for me was just AutoCAD.
