@@JakobManthei admittedly some of my languages are slipping but we try 😂. I think it’s important to learn the most common 1000 words in a language, and also memorize how to introduce yourself and speak about your life! Understanding the structure of the language will come in time, this was especially useful for me when learning Hungarian

Amazing! If you could change the amount of time you studied Italian before surprising your girlfriend, how long would you have studied? Shorter or Longer?

Actually I think I hit the sweet spot. I learned around 1.5 hours per day, which I was always able to sneak into my day. Also 50 days was good for the goal I wanted to reach, as it was not too far away from the future to cause me to procrastinate much (except for the first 2 weeks). Sure, I could have made it even faster, but I think one of the most important things is to actually enjoy the journey. Meaning, I might have to adjust step 1 of my recommendation: To set a deadline that actually is a real deadline (even if it's something small such as doing the dishes for your partner for 7 days), but which still allows you to have fun in whatever skill you are trying to build.
