I agree with you in saying that you only get about 4 hours of creative output in a day. For me, I get no more than 5 hours of creative output per day and that feels like the limit to keep me from burning out during any given week. This is a very helpful video! Failure is something that breeds success... failure is nothing more than not hitting the mark in any given pursuit. When we take the time to LEARN from our failures, we gain so much more. Fearing failure is worthless... just accept it knowing that a big part of life is nothing more than a string of successes and failures in various orders. Failures only define you if you ALLOW them to... a lesson from 67 years of living and my own string of successes and failures in life! Be well, my friend!! Great video!

When you mentioned resistance early in the video, I went directly to The War of Art. There's a reason why that book is legendary. Great resource and recommendation. Excellent video(s) btw. Thanks for the insight and sharing your expertise.

Yes indeed, Dr Stevie! by far the hardest part for me is sitting down to start. I can also spend months listening to a track that's almost finished, procrastinating. 🤣 Thanks! I've smashed all the smashers! Salutations from an ex-pat Canadian living in astonishingly chilly Ireland! ☘☮🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮☘

Great to hear that I'm normal. As we spend most of our time working in isolation one of the greatest challenges is ending up going round in circles and making sub-conscious excuses to avoid doing anything. Which is king of ironic as it's the creative part that I absolutely love. You've reminded me of some great strategies that inside my head I know, the challenge is remembering that you know them, if you get what I mean. I think I need to watch this video at the start of every day! Part of my new plan 🙂

Just discovering your channel now. These were great rules and tips, very practical but I'm glad you also were open about your own resistance and self doubt. What really resonated with me was when you mentioned most of your work won't move the needle for you. I think that's one of the things I have been trying to avoid, which has really made my output not to the level it needs to be. So, thank you!

What a great and honest video my friend! I must say, after 4 years of intense hard working producing tracks and building my brand online, I have been feeling burned out for the past months and got a bit down after diving too deep into the exciting and at the same time terrifying world of AI and how it can directly affect us composers. I am always watching your videos but this one in particular was exactly what I needed to be reminded of. Like you, I also have my golden rules, and they are plentfull, but lately, the resistency to start a new track somehow took over me. Anyway...talking too much...just really want to say thank you for all your wonderful videos and all you share on your channel! I always feel happy and calm after watching you! All the very best! Talk later! Henrique (aka WavebeatsMusic)

Good stuff Steven. I'm very ADHD, and 2 related time soaks for me are plugin hunting and then sound hunting for just the right one in the dozens of instruments I then have available. I think I'm saturated enough with instruments/effects that I'm doing that less, but the sound hunting is still bad. Although ironically I found you on your recent video promoting some free plugins. 😂 Any suggestions?

I am not here to start a flame war (however, it will inevitably happen), but I would like to get a little perspective on the productivity ethos. Of course, the video is not exactly about that and I find it really useful and there is a lot of food for thought in it overall. But, at the end of the day, the thing is that with the help of these notions, seven tracks and three remixes were done in a month. How does this compare to Michael Jackson, who made his producers mix 80+ versions of a song (Billie Jean) and eventually chose the second, or on a different occasion made his producer work on a track for like 18 months (check out the Sound on Sound article, August, 2004) and generally produced a 9-10 track album in five years (give or take...) And he did it with the help of the greatest producers/musicians available, on a technically unlimited budget and in the best studios. Obviously, a music history grade artist and production music are very different things, but for the general guy (me) the question can be put like this: How is it possible to strike the balance between the aspiration for perfection and producing complete albums in mere days? What do you think?

Your video facial smoothing filter is doing a number on the microphone probably due to the cruddy pop filter. If you clean it with a sticky roller, it should fix the issue. Rock on!
