I am always impressed by how good italian engineering can be. They always think out of the box and can challenge themselves because they have this artistic approach to engineering that countries like germany or the us don't have. Such a underappreciated engineering country.
@dianapennepacker6854 Жыл бұрын
They seem to create really good things. Like their Naval 155(156?) Naval gun the Super Rapid. Thing can be used to take down surface enemies, or missiles. They are testing a 200rpm version I guess. Then they create some things that are trash! Or stupid expensive compared to other things that are better.

Glad you mentioned that it was bought out by LK in 2008. Would love to know more about this phase of IDRA's history. Why it was sold, why it was bought? It seems there is an untold story here, that the LK owner would support the trajectory of IDRA, well before Giga Press was a thing. Thank for this great informative video.
@askallois Жыл бұрын
It was during the crisis of 2008, in Europe many factories closed and others risked bankruptcy due to lack of liquidity and orders, LK took advantage of the period and got its hands on Hydra, the government at the time could not (or would not) save it. However, it only changed hands, the skills and workforce remained Italian in complete autonomy. At the time, many Chinese, American and Far Eastern companies descended like vultures on European industry, shopping for industrial realities (and not) in crisis, now is very difficult, as the government immediately vetoes it.

WOW! One of my favorite videos on your channel, I'm only 7 minutes in, and it's such an important and educational video. I love the footage and the detailed background on Idra and their purposeful focus on the aesthetics of their presses. Note: Soybean oil is not a food, and should never go near your pans. It has been sold as a food, but it's not a food. Linoleic acid in Soybean oil is not compatible with Humans. Also, how do they just "eliminate the need for heat treating." Like, how do you magically solve the enigma of metal alloy after nobody else could do it for 75 years?

I had a cracked casting in my Y. The exterior damage was just the rear door and quarter panel. It just got hit perfectly. My first accident in over 35 years of driving. The estimate was $48k to replace the casting, so they totaled it. 2100 miles on it. I had waited over a year for the car originally, and three months for Tesla to say it wasn't repairable. All that said, I enjoyed the car so much in those 2100 miles that I ordered the replacement yesterday.

That's all good, but what happens with a fender bender? You have to replace the whole unit, not parts. Expect your insurance rates to skyrocket, since you will have lots more totaled cars from smaller accidents... Also casted is not a word, it is always cast parts (past and present tense).

The problem with this approach is repairability. If the casted piece ever gets damaged in a road accident, the car basically is a write off.
@Voltaje_YT Жыл бұрын
That is why the cast is very strong, if it gets damages, then most of the caar is also very damage as well, so solding wouldn't be considered anyway, besides, once an accident occours, people mostly don't try to make the car usable, it goes to th etrash, you better just buy a new one.

nNah, too late, it took 5 years to develope the giga press, and it takes about 6 months to build one, so GM will have a giga press in 2026 at best, and then GM will be behind Tesla 7 years, dont ever think Tesla will wait for Gm or anybody, for GM to dominate, gm needs to advance way faster than Tesla, and currently nobody can, due to the industry is still to used to the old way of production, which is very slow, so when Gm has a decent Ev, Tesla will have Evs 5 times better, cheaper and an already stablished market, so no, Tesla has already won the decade.
