Interesting seeing all the stocks laid out next to each other and how different they are regarding height. I can see the importance of trying a selection of different guns, as I did recently. David suggested I try a 525 and 725 as the fit was not quite right with my old 325 and I found the 725 was far more comfortable to mount. The 725 comb height, plus the shape of the pistol grip and palm swell also felt more natural. It was well worth the trip to The Oxford Gun company.

Thank you very much for this knowledge. I’m in the process of making a decision in modifying a gun that I have versus buying a new one. I believe you just helped me figure out the proper thing to do. Thanks

Thanks for posting this video, i have just swapped from a Beretta to a Browning so it was really interesting to see the difference between the back profile of the stocks. I'm working my way through your videos and really enjoying them.

Gun fit is perceptive person to person, chest width/thickness arm size etc i am 6'4 and a 14 1/4 length of pull feels best to me- which is considered short by my height to some- but gym has given me a thicker chest etc so that inch plus on my chest is an inch off the lop, cast, pitch and lop are main items, comb height can be worked around by mounting harder/softer to face, for example he mounts guns very low in his shoulder so he says most guns are low in comb

Bought a B25 with straight stock, on try before you buy, shot superbly, after checking fit it was suggested extra 5/8 th was required on stock otherwise excellent fit, 5/8th added and really struggled, back to original, and excellent results. But still tempted to make 150 mile round trip for a fitting by yourselves

Just as important, maybe more so is cast if length and height is in the all park.

I'm not a hunter, but I've noticed that all game over under guns come with a slight drop and some have interchangeable recoil pad of different thickness. So here is my question : does the recoil pad thickness affect sight height? I mean, since the stock comes with a slight drop, if I lengthen it with recoil pad I will "push up" the gun by a certain degree. At the same time, your cheek is going to touch the stock in a slightly lower point affecting the sight height.
@1yehny Жыл бұрын
I think if you have a longer recoil pad, your cheek will run a little further back on the comb. If your comb has drop (unlike monte carlo stocks), then your sight picture will be lower than with a thinner recoil pad.

you haven’t mentioned the grip radius or stock shape that all effects gun fit anything longer then 15 1/4 in a straight hand side by side double trigger is too long for me but if you put a o/u or semi auto in my hands then i’ll need a 16” length of pull or more which isn’t possible which is partly why i’m still shooting a semi auto is it was a cheap way to fit a gun to my self

What do you think about using shooting sites on the end of barrel? Do you think that helps correct head placement etc.? Thanks for the video and all the other ones you have posted. They have helped me a lot in choosing a new shotgun.

How can a beretta A400 Xcel sporting (2022 grey version) with a “measured” LOP @ 14-1/4” feel uncomfortably long yet a browning Maxus 2 or 725 sporting with same LOP feel like home ???? This past week shooting sporting clays a world champion shooter let me shoulder his 16” LOP Perazzi MX200S and it felt as comfortable as my 14-1/4” browning 725 sporting. Absolutely makes no sense
@Jolly56Roger2 жыл бұрын
Laying them on the table to see the hight of the stock its not that accurate as the forends can be a different shape i.e thicker ,you need a straight edge on the rib and mesure down to the stock comb & heel.

But it does show quite quickly that there is quite a variation between different makes and models. I think this is all he was trying to show, rather than it being an analytic analysis. Just emphasising, you need to try before you buy.
