Dhirubhai Ambani was a keen cricket player in his early life. This was one reason for him to back the Cricket World Cup, because financially it was a huge risk for Reliance to invest in the event, given the fact that Cricket viewership in India was not huge at the time, and access to television was also much limited. Things had improved slightly after India unexpectedly won the 1983 World Cup but corporate sponsorship in Indian Cricket was still not a reality. The fact that Reliance went ahead with the sponsorship, given they had no interest (at the time) in sports, was an incredibly shrewd business decision which has to be admired in hindsight. They even got the World Cup renamed to Reliance World Cup which was unprecedented in cricket.

Man... The presentation was amazing... What would have India done without Ambai/ Reliance??? In one way, they saved India from humiliation but then the Ambani's were minting money at the cost of India then itself... The fact: Ambani's can never be industrialist but just businessmen... Hope they carry all this wealth to afterlife or beyond to their grave... They are never above TATA

At that time BCCI needed 30 crores and now a single player in IPL auction alone gets 15 crores.

That was brilliant! Super narration skills and production! You guys need to take such content to Netflix/AmazonPrime/Hotstar, etc. to get a big chunk of money at once - to make even more content :)

Dhirubhai Ambani was way ahead of his time when it comes to business and it's expansion. His ideas were just out of box and later on others followed them. Genius From Chorwad Gujarat.

Your content is next level🔥. Subscribed both your english and hindi channels. Kindly make a detailed video on why World Cup was held at a 5 years gap after this world cup, i.e. 1992 and not at 1991. And also why it was held at after 3 years only at 1999 after 1996,not at 2000.

The world cup in 1999 was held after 3 yrs of 96 wc to make up for the 1 additional yr gap created between '87 and '92... That much I know... I don't know why the 5 yrs gap between '87 and '92 world cups ..

Tata get so much recognition and they deserve it. But it's also Ambani, who constructed new India - Cricket(1987 wc was named reliance cup), then IPL, then people didn't have internet, gave cheaper faster internet and brought india equal in terms of opportunities. We can study anything online, talk to anyone from foreign land, now is the best time to be in india.🙌

Thanks for this wonderful story Sir! Brilliantly researched! In many ways, that success of the mid-late 80s could be seen as a precursor to the transformation that started a decade later

Seems like mr ambani invented the concept of cashburn way before. Banya was a right work. They are very proud and also know how to use money

Those cricket BTS till 2015 made cricket awesome Now we don't feel that city That stadium That shops outside The workers there The real struggle of the players Unlike today's glory Also the colourful flag like shiny clothes What a nostalgia

In this entire naration neither bcci, politicians, rajeev ghandi, india were seen as heros, just dheerubhai ambani is portrayed as a hero. And i too think he is the main and central figure in this dramatic world cup preparation.
