I’ve been riding my Scout since 2016 and love it. I was thrilled when I heard about the Chief, I’m a short rider and could never feel confident on the bigger bikes, the chief has answered my prayers, the bigger engine and bike size without the full on bagger size is the best thing about this entire model line up for guys like me. Indian is definitely listening to what customers want.

This was great video and with the release of the new Indian Chief Bobber, it honestly changed my perspective on American cruiser motorcycles. Harleys and the Indians have always been outdated in my opinion and the new chief has come a long way in terms of technology and rider infotainment. You also mentioned that your scout taught you alot about safety after your accident but I just want to reiterate just how important riding gear is becuase it is the only piece of equipment protecting you from severe bodily injury. I will NEVER leave my house without full riding gear and it is not because I am a stickler, I just would never want my family to see me with so much trauma after an accident, god forbid. I don;t care how hot it is, safety is my number one priority. I had way to many friends get in accidents and seeing what can happen scares me to even think about. The moment you become complacent and thing riding gear is optional, is the one moment you end up in the hospital wishing you wore it.

I honestly felt almost EVERY emotion you talked about with my Scout :D Had my Scout for almost 2 years, even had the same pipes on mine. And while I loved that bike SO MUCH, and it was the biggest bike I'd owned up to that point, whenever I went on longer rides with friends (over night stuff or out of the state) I found myself wishing it had... just, "more". Wasn't sure exactly WHAT more I wanted, just more. More space/more wind protection/more tech like cruise control... had the Cheif come out even a year ago I guarantee I would've slapped money down on a pre-order lol. But I made the switch last year to a Springfield Dark Horse, and honestly, now I don't know if I'd ever go "down" to the Chief. I don't think it's really a "step down", but those hard bags are freaking awesome. Honestly, you just can't go wrong with Indian. I've test rode a Challenger and wanted one lol. I've road the FTR and thought "sh*t, this would be fun out on the dunes". Literally, every bike they make I feel has a place in the garage and on the road. I don't know if Harley guys feel the same about their line-up, I just know I love what Indian is doing and am part of the tribe until I can't ride anymore.

Brandon, I have to say that your videos are absolutely top notch. I am a former Harley rider, having owned twen of them since 1982. Everything from Sportsters to Road Kings, I never has a single mechanical problem with any of them. I sold my most recent Harley in 2018, a Dyna Street Bob. Why? Because the traffic in the Atlanta (where I lived at the time) had gotten out of hand and it was just plain dangerous in areas that previously were reasonably motorcycle-friendly. I recently moved to a rural area in Kansas City, KS, and the number of motorcycles on the road here is amazing, plus there are some great bike-friendly roads near me. So I decided that it was time to get another motorcycle and this time I was looking for something other than a Harley, something different. And then - BAM! - The 2022 Indian Chief was announced. To make a long story short and after a ton of research, last week I ordered a new Chief in Black Metallic and I anxiously await its arrival. Your insight is what pushed me in the right direction.

I got back into riding with my first cruiser in '14, a Victory Vegas (if you like wide backs, the Jackpot was impressive). It was a great starter bike and an introduction to feet forward controls. I told myself if I put 10k miles on it, I could consider upgrading. Since Victory ceased to exist, I made the jump to Indian (short jump) and went with a touring bike, the Roadmaster. Just clicked over 33k miles in just over 2 years. What a machine. I plan to keep this bike no matter what other motorcycles I add to my stable.

Had a 2019 scout, did 5000km and loved it. A bee sting under my eye (in a full face!) doing 90km/hr around a bend.....new bike will be super chief limited,in about 3 months. Had my new Indian Scout Sixty for about 3 months. Did some rides through the mountains, back roads, and some highways. I would say its great for cruising locally or taking back roads going about 45-60 mph. If i was planning on spending most of my time on the Interstate going 65-80 mph I would lean more towards the Cheif or upgrading the Scout a lot more. But that's my 2 Cents....Great Video!

Brandon: Your review is spot on. The Chief is a fantastic motorcycle. I took delivery of my Chief Bobber Dark Horse on March 27, 2021 and I absolutely love it. I also own a Vintage and FTR-RR. My Chief Bobber fills the “bar hopper” niche the other bikes didn’t quite fit. My son-in-law owns a Scout Bobber. Also a great bike. He is a little younger and likes the higher revving water cooled power. One thing you didn’t mention is how easy it is to modify a Chief and make it your own. The possibilities are endless. Mate the reason I bought a Scout was it’s a lighter bike rather than a big heavy cruiser. I’ve got the best Scout with cruise control, upgraded Nitron shocks, Race Tech springs with Gold emulators in the forks - it handles beautifully now. I agree, Cruise Control should have been standard on the Scout but MC Cruise in Melbourne Australia make a plug and play cruise for the Scout which is great for the open road. I’ve got over 40,000 klms on the clock now and it purrs at 120 k/hr. It’s got old school Cocktail Shaker mufflers that make it sound great. I also put a Corbin dual seat so I could take my wife with me on the back. It’s simply the best bike I’ve owned and I’ve customised the paint. The Scout is for around town and the open road. OMG THANK YOU for not saying that new riders should start out on a little "starter" bike. I took the motorcycle safety course and got my license in April 2005. I had only ridden on a motorcycle 3 times before the class. Twice I was the driver and that was for no more than a mile combined. May of 2005 I bought a Victory Jackpot. I learned to ride on that bike being smart and riding within my skill levels always remembering what I was taught in the MSF class. That class got me out of two potential bad accidents. My philosophy is don't waste money on a "starter" bike. Ride what you want and ride within your skill level.

Maneuverability sold me on the scout bobber twenty over the chief. Just felt more nimble, loving carving corners. The extra weight and slightly less lean angle was noticeable to me in corners. Bobber doesn't have the best lean angle, could carve better on my bolt but styling,power and the maneuverability it does have is enough to keep me smiling ear to ear. Plus they sell a big bore kit to jump up another 200CC down the road if I feel it's needed. Love the high reving V-twin scout motor as well. I'd like to add a chief to my line up, but don't see myself getting rid of my scout bobber even when I do, love this bike.

I’ve owned every Polaris Indian except the FTR and Roadmaster. My main ride is the 116 Indian Super Chief Limited. I have waited since 2016 for this ride and they FINALLY delivered. This bike marks all the requirements to have the perfect Indian bike except for the classic look. My Chieftain was perfect in that category! But overlooking that one BIG check mark, I am more than ecstatic with this bike. Y’all look for our IRMG on our Colorado ride this June!

Hey B, first off I want to say I love your channel. Now to the topic. I’ve owned Harleys and a couple Indians. The Indians I’ve owned were a chieftain and a scout 1133cc standard. I loved both bikes. The chieftain was the best bagger I’ve ever owned and the scout was by far the best cruiser I had ever owned. I sold both bikes and replaced them with BMWs. I did not want to continue to pay 💰 to get motorcycles to what they should be from the factory. Both my BMWs have 90% from the factory. I do not feel the new chief is a step up from the scout. On the contrary I think it is a huge step down. It is part of the reason I sold my scout and got another Bmw. I don’t plan to ever own another air cooled motorcycle. The scout is a modern motorcycle with classic styling. I didn’t want more classic but more modern features. When you are on a motorcycle safety should be paramount and the scout single disc front brake and no traction control is unacceptable with so many dangers out on the road. The bike I replaced it with had more power, dual disc brembo front brakes, traction control, rider modes plus one more after break in, full fairing, adjustable windshield, electronically adjustable suspension, huge TFT screen and gps, Bmw app, insane lean angle, hard locking panniers, top box, alarm system and so much more for around the same price I paid for my scout.

Such great styling and the modern amenities that I was looking for. I have had my new Chief for a month now and I will never go back to HD. I bought one of the first Super Chief Limiteds that were released in my area and I have absolutely zero regrets. The power, the style, the display, the ride modes. My first 500 miles happened in like...a week LOL. It's my daily commuter since it's quick, nimble, and light to hop around town while still having the power, performance, and comfort to crunch serious miles on the weekend. If this isn't a wake up call to Harley, it really should be.

2:15 agreed, main reason I don't like dresser bikes! See action heroes jumping stunts with those bikes? No. Gotta sacrifice comfort for stylin'. You ride a lot harder trips than me, so having a Chief makes sense. Still have my 2016 Scout, and it runs well. Changed the battery out this year, that was the main problem with it. Whenever outside was chilly, the cold would knock out the battery and it'd have to be jumped. This new one though, think it'll endure colder temps.

i just love the style of the scout bobber, the tank design and low sleep style. I prefer the Chief, but definitely not with the styling. If they made a scout bobber with that Ride Command feature i'd buy that in a heart beat. Part of owning a truck or bike is how you look at it, and for me the scout bobber is one of the nicest bikes out there. I wish the Chief took some styling Qs from it

I went to a demo ride at my local dealer to look at the super chief. I was riding at the time a 2017 heritage softail. I had no intention to trade just wanted to look at it since it was close in appearance to my harley. I rode it I liked it a lot! Then I test rode a challenger and that bike checks all the boxes. I've test rode every bike in Indians line up back in 2017 wound up on the harley somehow. Well after the challenger ride the harley was left at the dealer and an Indian sits in my shop now. The chief would be my goto bike if I'm ever in a position where I can own multiple bikes. I think I was just ready for the creature comforts a fairing and hard bags offer. Just got a 2022 Chief Bobber Dark Horse and I love it! This is coming from a guy that has not rode a bike in 10+ years (Honda CBR crotch rocket days). I went with this particular bike versus any other brand or model because everything was spec’d for me especially being a tall person (forward controls, high handlebars, etc); however, the thing that sold me besides how it looked and drove was the built in navigation. I’m very happy with my decision and if anyone is looking to put their crotch rocket days behind them I highly recommend the Chief Bobber Dark Horse or any Indian bike that fits!

Awesome video for prospective buyers out there. Having also bought a 2020 Scout Bobber and since sold it this past year (absolutely awesome bike, but I downsized all my bikes and now have a ZH2!), I will say this. When I went to buy it from the dealer, I literally looked at them and said "see the Scout.. has anyone asked why we can't have that bigger motor in this smaller frame? Because I see a ton of potential here." .. one year later, the Chief happened AND included the changes that I was also hoping for with interactive touchscreen/HUD/nav. Clearly, they were paying attention to customer feedback, and that's awesome. I will most likely be keeping my ZH2, but I will be in the market for a Chief next year. Indian is the most American motorcycle we've had in a LONG time, and I think they're absolutely setting the bar. I can't tell you how many people would stop and look at that Bobber and ask me about it EVERYWHERE; people love the look and it definitely shows they did it justice. As far as the Chief? I was thrilled when I saw the announcement. Still am, too! Next stop for me: Chief Darkhorse in Alumina Smoke Jade.

I bought a 2019 scout bobber brand new, decked it out with exhaust, intake, custom tune, the works. It was a blast, but my wife hated riding it with me. I traded it in last month for a 21 challenger dark horse and man I'm in love. I miss being crazy nimble, but the challenger feels like a midsize and has plenty of power. I plan on doing a stage 2 for it soon. Great video. Had I not had my sights on the challenger, I would have totally traded for the chief bobber

Your vid from test driving the chief in AZ helped me decided on what bike I wanted to spend real money on. I knew I liked the cruiser style, but wasn’t sure on which one. I’ve never ridden before, but wanted to for years and finally pulled the throttle this year. I am actually taking my riding course this week/weekend and bought a rebel 300 a few weeks back as a learner bike while waiting for my chief (dark horse) to come in. I’ve been riding around my neighborhood which has low traffic and open roads to get up to 60-65mph. I’m 6’3” 250-260lbs so I knew a scout wouldn’t work for me and wanted to get something I would enjoy for years to come with my size. I can’t wait to have my M1 license so I can get out on the freeway and ride to work. But really want that Chief to come in soon and get to work on it. Thanks for making such informative content. Great video! First bike for me was a 2014 HD Dyna Low Rider, current bike is a 2016 Chief Dark Horse. Love my DH, don't plan on ever getting rid of it. It has it all, can be ready for a long haul or be a stripped down cruiser within minutes, stage 2, re-cushioned seat, can have passenger. I am a little jealous of the current 116 & sport mode, but there will always be something bigger and better that comes out.

Hey Brandon great job, the last time I rode was in 1974. Last year I was looking at the Lower Rider S 114 did my homework. That was the one for me. As of 5 months ago the new lineup for 2022 Indian Chief popped up on my phone. The 1st one I saw was the Chief Dark Horse 116, I watched all the reviews y'all did on videos. Immediately I changed my mind. The Dark Horse 116 is for me. I plan on doing the MSF course get my M1 and go for the Indian Chief Dark Horse. I got a chance to ride the new Chief, a Scout and Scout Bobber this July.. First time I ever rode an Indian.. I ended up ordering a 2021 Scout Bobber. I felt like the Chief was heavier than I really wanted. It felt more raw like probably how most people would want a motorcycle though, big ol' torquey glug glug motor. I preferred the smooth push you out of the seat power from the Scout and I have loved the looks of the Bobber since they first came out. I will be ordering a Corbin seat and possibly different handlebars for it though.

Love the scout bobber that Indian produced! Truly a fun bike. The gauge on the chief though is really nice. Onboard navigation is a plus.

I have a 2023 Scout Rogue. I'm a new rider, and I couldn't be happier. I will be adding a Suzuki Boulevard m109 B.O.S.S. within a year. I'd love a Chief, but i really like the idea of the liquid cooled Boulevard, like my Rogue. I might just test ride a Cheif like you suggested.

I love my Scout. I'm getting a Chief at some point. Great video. I feel like the Scout and it's simplicity, power and handling and does so much in one bike and looks amazing doing it. Power upgrades are easy and crazy fast on the road when done right. I enjoy the Scout mostly for it's simplicity. No extras or electronics and such. I know it gets criticized for it sometimes but there is nothing to get between you and the road. I would get the Chief to grab all those electronics goodies for a different riding experience and for a slightly different kind of ride.

Yup , so Scout was my first introduction to American made motorcycles and my first Cruiser motorcycle ! Scout and Scout bobber still my favorite in the aesthetics department so great job Indian I get compliments almost everywhere i go on how the Scout looks and it's nice to know that Indian is listening to its customer base Brandon , I don't see how any motorcycle can afford not to in this day and age !

Great video and review. I'm in the market for a new bike and have been leaning toward the Road King, but this Chief Bobber is really a beautiful bike to my eye. While these two bikes are not directly comparable, I am feeling drawn toward the Chief. The designers at Indian nailed it. The more I look at it, the more I'm reconsidering.

Nice video.. I love my Bobber (I've got a 2020 model).. I don't have a problem with it being too small but I'm also 5'1" and change. I can say that at stops, my leg cooks on the right side. I don't really notice enough on the left side at all. All I did to modify the bike was was change out the exhaust and the seat and I've ridden that thing all over the place, even the mountains and wow! That motorcycle is incredible! (I do wish it had cruise control though) but I like the simplicity of it. It gets me away from technology for a bit. Enjoy!

I rode a chief dark horse during a demo day in San Diego and coming from a scout sixty it was EVERYTHING you wanted in an upgrade. From the available power to the ape handle bars, the upgrades felt natural and easy to jump into from the smaller scout. You can tell that Indian took their time to try and make the best midsize bike they could put out. Plus it has touch screen display!

I am getting back into riding after 12 years. First I was set on getting scout bobber 20 although it did feel light, I had a feeling I am missing something. Then few days after I saw this chief bobber dark horse and it just spoke to me. Sometimes it's not about speed it is about what the heart says, and to me it validated why riding a motorcycle can be spiritual experience. I placed my order for the chief bobber dark horse today and looking forward to it. Thank you for your review, it definitely helped making that decision. 👍

The scout made me want to get my license and ride. I bought one and added a Roadmaster as well. The look of the bike hit me in a way no HD ever has. I can see the Chief doing the same for many people.

I've had a lot of committed relationships with bikes over the years: standards, dirt bikes, dual sports, adventure touring, commuters, etc, but cruisers never blew my skirt up. At least not until the Scout Bobber and just when I finally saved up for one I'm having 2nd thoughts because the Chief seems pretty awesome too.

That’s a great a problem to have I have a Indian Roadmaster but plant to buy another Indian Dark Horse Vintage I love that bike and it is the strip down bike that I want for local and trips under 1000 miles. My Indian Roadmaster will handle the long hauls for sure. I know people may think I can strip down my 2017 Roadmaster and ride it but it’s not the same. Plus I always wanted the Dark Horse it was the Indian Motorcycle that I wanted since the first time I saw it during a benefit ride. But when I went to demo ride it another person was leaving the dealership on a demo ride and the Manager convinced me to try the Roadmaster. That bike stole my heart ❤️ I fell in love from start to finish of the demo ride. I bought the Roadmaster a few weeks later once I finally decided on trading my Kawasaki Vulcan Vaquero 1700 ABS it was my first bike after getting my license. I LOVED THAT BIKE it took me four hours at the dealership to finally move forward and trade it in they gave me full bluebook value I almost went back and bought it back. But the Roadmaster still makes me feel like I did day one I can’t stop smiling when I ride, sit on it, or just walk past it. But now it’s time to get my dream bike the Dark Horse. I LOVE THAT BIKE!

Here we are 3 years later, and the Power Plus engine continues to be exclusive to the Challenger/Pursuit. I would really like to see a new Chief with that engine and perhaps Softail suspension and a design more reminiscent of the old Chiefs, including wraparound fenders.

I've gotten my first bike, which is a Honda VTX 1300, the indian chief is among my top picks for a dream bike, I'm partial to Harleys, as well as Hondas, but Indian has a strong contender with both the Chief and the Scout

Thanks for the video and some interesting points! I literally just ordered a Scout bobber 60. I felt it was a more comfortable move from a Honda Shadow 750. For now, I do mostly city and day trip driving and didn't see the need for a larger engine, yet. I debated on a HD Iron 883, but the air cooled engine concerned me where I spend less time cruising. Plus the aesthetic of the bobber really grabbed me. That said, I can see a move to the Chief in my future.

Saw a red Chief Darkhorse looked nice! 👍 I’m bias it looks remarkably like how I have my Sport Glide setup. My SG is wicked red black motor T bars & trim with black factory mag wheels similar to the Darkhorse wheels. Searched for dyno results best I found was cammed air breather custom 2-1 and tuned. It made 110 HP & 140 TQ. I realize HP is how fast but thats a lot bust the tire loose torque! Be fun to roll out of a curve on. The exhaust sounded really good too. I did a stage kit on my SG to retain the warranty. It made 116HP 116TQ. Probably not quite as brutal but a little faster. Really glad to see Indian add this bike. Had I not already bought the SG I would definitely be test riding it.

Thanks, just the kind of content I needed on the new Chief Bobber - and it's done really well, nice one. Showing all the different models in the video and your take on the bike has been really helpful. I bought a Victory Gunner a few years ago and I was annoyed then that Indian had that gap in their line up, but glad they've listened to feedback. It feels like they're tuning in to what people want. It looks great, I think I'll need to get a test ride booked!
