Fully agree with you. In fact there is no need to stand or respect unless it is being officially played. Even courts have ruled that you don't have to stand if it is played on TV, radio or in a movie etc.

Even teaching children in PRIMARY SCHOOLS, the Indian National Anthem, there are instructions to use only TWICE.Once when school starts and when school ends.Not many times in a class session/ period repeatedly. Every TEXT BOOK has the printed version in lical language. And only children above 9 are taught since they should learn correctly to read and sing..knowing its meaning when teacher teaches.
