A few clarifications: 1) Dr. Mike is not totally correct about hospitals having to render emergency medicine without insurance. Theoretically, if a hospital did not receive federal funding (Medicare/Medicaid), they would not be forced to treat patients without insurance. All hospitals want the money, so they make the decision to be forced into that. 2) Insurance companies get all the hate, but hospitals, medical schools, doctors, nurses, medical staff, etc are all to blame. In the past, hospitals were truly nonprofit and rendered care for free through churches. Now it’s all about money. Since it is all about money and the average person cannot afford large sums of money, insurance companies were created.
