Another thing to note is the prevalence of strong female deities and sages which is contrast to the societal norms means something happened in the past that gave birth to gender bias. I am from south India and here women are treated almost equally to men. (keyword: almost) Sister and I got same education, same materials(actually sister got brand new books and tiffin box and I, her brother got her old one). And same goes with my neighbours and we were from lower middle-class family. Only time my sister was mistreated was when she had to marry early in her 20s while I get to enjoy my single life. When I went to north India(Delhi-UP area) I was shocked how women are treated on busy road. Cat calling is normal in Delhi and my sister was advised not to walk on road after dark in sub-urban areas! We never had to worry about walking on roads with sisters after dark in my small hometown. But I think it is improving since I last visited North about 8 years ago and I pray to god that it improves.

Thank you for telling the truth based on facts. Though I have grown up in patriarchal society but few things was clear to me at early age (After reading Abhigyan shakuntalam) that some customes in our society does not belong to us. Like dowry and parda system and that’s why I never follow them after marriage. When I refused to follow the parda system explaining the same logic my great grandmother in law laughed at my comment thinking I am naive 😅 Anyway glad I rejected these so orthodox beliefs.
