@@ZerglingLover While it's true that straightforward statements can sometimes be more direct and to the point, there is a distinct value in essays that delve deeper into topics and provide a nuanced exploration. Essays allow for a comprehensive examination of ideas, encouraging critical thinking and a more thorough understanding of the subject matter. One of the primary advantages of longer essays is the opportunity to present a well-structured and well-supported argument. By breaking down the topic into various components and providing evidence, examples, and analysis, an essay can offer a more convincing and comprehensive perspective. This depth allows the reader to gain a holistic understanding of the issue at hand, fostering a more informed and nuanced view. Moreover, essays often serve as a platform for the development of critical thinking skills. They require the author to consider different angles, anticipate counterarguments, and present a well-rounded conclusion. This process not only enhances the writer's analytical abilities but also encourages readers to engage with the content on a deeper level. In addition, the extended format of essays allows for the exploration of context, history, and implications. This contextualization is crucial for a thorough understanding of any topic, helping readers appreciate the complexity and interconnectedness of different factors. By providing context, essays can illuminate the roots of a particular issue, its evolution over time, and its potential future trajectories. Furthermore, essays are an effective medium for expressing creativity and individual voice. While a succinct statement might convey a point efficiently, an essay allows for the exploration of personal perspectives, experiences, and unique insights. This personal touch not only makes the content more engaging but also contributes to a richer and more diverse discourse. In conclusion, while brevity has its merits in certain contexts, essays provide a valuable space for in-depth exploration, critical thinking, and the development of well-supported arguments. Their extended format facilitates a thorough understanding of complex issues, encourages analytical skills, and allows for the expression of individual perspectives, making them a valuable tool for intellectual engagement and discourse.

Can kind of sympathize with him--the combination of being stealthed, long range and AE makes Lurkers an extremely unique unit to deal with. And the issue is in lower leagues, the vast majority of games will end before they come out. So many terrans get very very little practice against them and its just extremely frustrating when learning often creates instant losses because you chose to make a split second choice incorrectly.
@colossaldonut51903 жыл бұрын
Yeah, good thing Terran doesn't have long-range stealthed units that can create frustrating situations leading into instant losses!
@robertb72303 жыл бұрын
@@colossaldonut5190 Kind of hard to compare a spell caster who uses a single target ability that requires intense micro, and also has to balance energy usage between stealth and their damage ability with a general purpose unit that produces an AE effect and utilizes stealth without the need for energy. Ghosts kind of become comparable in TVZ in the absolute top end pro-league where a 400 APM player can micro up 10 steady shots in under a second while managing energy and moving his army. The idea that you're seeing ghosts have near the same impact in diamond or even masters is...well, its silly.
@nfzeta1283 жыл бұрын
@@robertb7230 think he was talking about mines. Ghost don't require perfect usage to be op anyway. Even if you don't snipe everything and have the ghost win the fight single-handedly sniping a few lurkers is already great and if it's against protoss it's even easier with emp. Also ghost snipe is usually used when the enemy retreats or the terran gets the drop on someone so you usually don't have to juggle much army movement with their use. Honestly in late game Terran could make their life easier at lower skill levels if they pair ghosts with more mech and less other bio, especially vs zerg.
@robertb72303 жыл бұрын
@@nfzeta128 Mech and bio aren't on the same upgrade tree, and most Zerg underestimate the immobility of mech and how easily exploitable that is in late game with a zerg who a lot of creep spread. (Like mech is essentially just a worse version of Lurker backbone comps. Mech has almost zero advantages compared to Lurker comps except just a little more range, but its several times less mobile--so the same strategy used to beat lurker, IE stay mobile, is easier to execute vs mech. It's why mech is so rare in TvZ in pro matches or the ladder) Mines are actually a decent comparison but they really fall short, because what they tend to 'wreck' in TvZ is a single comp if you micro them wrong, while Lurkers generally destroy everything unless you micro against them correctly. And that's the difference, with say mine--you can use macro to effectively nullify its advantage, you can't really do that with Lurker--the answer MUST be micro. And I'm not saying Lurkers are OP--but they are VERY unique in how you need to handle them, you can't use the same strategy as you would with any other unit (And that's actually rare in SC2) PvT mines are a different story, sure--but this is about TvZ. I would say of non-spell casters though, Lurkers are probably the most difficult unit to deal with in the game. The combo of AE, Stealth and long range, without energy usage or need to micro-target, just makes them a very unique unit to deal with.
@nfzeta1283 жыл бұрын
@@robertb7230 They aren't but the mines don't need army upgrades and honestly neither do the tanks. Ghosts are their more as spellcasters not damage dealers. Also see how you already have a lot of conditions the zerg needs to win there? Good creep spread, and a mobile army? That's basically only ling bane muta which is weak to mines unless the zerg is just playing better and far ahead. The strategy may be easier to counter but it's also much easier for the Terran to play, hence the purpose of my advice for people who don't think they can handle ghosts with bio. "Mines are also a terrible comparison because what they tend to 'wreck' in PvZ is a single comp, " What?? Mines kill almost every tier 1 and 2 unit the zerg has, even roaches and ravagers which won't be as countered still would be softened nicely with a couple mine hits. Also how are marines and marauders 'everything'? Because that's all lurkers counter. Tanks as you say have longer range, Liberators just counter lurkers, ghosts are about even and depend on who gets the drop on whom but ghosts kill lurkers faster than lurkers kill ghosts if the Terran gets the drop on the Zerg. The above things are exactly what using macro to counter the lurkers is like. Heck just staying ahead and pressuring means the zerg would be hard pressed to transition to lukers. Drops also abuse their lack of mobility. You're literally proving the whole Terran blindspot with this one. Lurkers are only difficult to deal with if the zerg is playing better and being allowed into better positions, or being allowed to spread creep too far. Terran can just use tanks and libs to shred them before they can get close enough and burrow. This is also ignoring scans as an option. Protoss, while they would have a harder time can just use disruptors and time warp.

Ghosts are very very hard to use vs lurkers. Lurkers and ghosts snipe have same range, and in high level games, there's always a flock of overseers accompanying the ghosts. If you see ghosts murdering lurkers, that means a massive APM investment on the part of the terran, while the lurkers just sit there. Ultra vs ghosts, yeah ghosts will eat them alive. That's why there needs to be infestor. Infestor catching ghost clump and 1 Ultra going on, will massacre a dozen ghosts caught in fungal.

@@vladmatei1958 In match vs ghosts best response are lurkers + overseers (works good even if mines are added), other way of playing are banelings + lings + fungal growth (this type is better when tanks are added). 1 good placed fungal followed by bane chase can kill 20+ ghosts i don't even say that this is highly cost efficient for zerg. Roaches are good at countering ghosts in early game when they don't have alot of energy for snipes, also in early game spine crawlers do job well vs ghosts. I rather recomend to avoid broodlords and ultras vs ghosts bcs they are less cost efficient in killing them. With good placement of terrain or buildings to cover ghosts they can easily counter tier 3 units of zerg. @Ninjaguy1b3 жыл бұрын
@@howlingwolf5213 Also keep in mind (in addition to the other points) that ravens cost a significant amount of gas, and mules only mine minerals, so you're going to be dedicating more SCVs to gas and lowering your passive mineral income. A mule is worth about 200 to 225 minerals, and a raven costs 100/200. This can be good for your economy in some ways (marines are an excellent mineral sink) but it messes up your resource economy in other ways (gas/mineral balance, building refineries earlier, and worker efficiency in general). However, ignoring money, ravens are also not great against lurkers in general because they have much shorter detection range than a scan, and flying close enough to see the lurkers often means floating into hydralisk range (and if they have lurkers, they have hydras). At this point the zerg can pick them off cheaply and then you're back to scans anyways except you also spent money and infrastructure on raven production. Using ravens efficiently requires a good bit of micro which is often difficult even for masters players. Late into the game terran can solve detection efficiently by just building extra orbitals. In some games you will see a string of 3-4 orbitals not associated with a mining base that just exist to gather energy for mules and scans. Three mules pays for an orbital, so it is a respectable investment even if you don't end up using the scans. And sometimes (seriously) you just really need to scan 15 times in a row in an extreme late game.

Ahoy Harstem, I have an idea for a new series, it might be called (g) rate the cheese, or smth like that, when ppl might send you in similar fashion as is it imba, their worst and stupid replays, when they got blasted - focusing on more weird, shorter, cheese games instead of longer macro oriented. I'd love to see the opposite idea as well, where ppl could could show off their best replays and cheeses, but I understand that replay from a winning player might be a chance to bully and shaming the other player, so I'm not sure if it's possible to do in a proper way. Also maybe then just review a couple of games in one episode instead of one, you might also make topic episodes, like cannon rushes, so it'd be faster for you and more entertaining for us. I'd love to see some strange metal league cheese with your commentary and Hamster comments. Thanks to both of you for the great entertainment you guys deliver!
@soggycheese84853 жыл бұрын
I think he should just have a sub series that is shorter on average and just focus on cheese and the defense against cheese. "Is cheese imba or do I suck" cause all these games are usually macro based when most ladder heroes just cheese anyway. That's what we are all dealing with.

It's not being over-critical. Being conservative with stims when you don't have medivacs is basic, especially since he was on creep and therefore would later need the speed against both lings and banes. 11:22 Yes, but later than he should, there was also no prep for further production, especially of air units.

Make more starports and pump out some ravens. You won't need to scan as often. As the game goes on, make libs, and eventually bc's. You can't stick to tier 2 units throughout the entire game.

Lol it’s just what the tank is for zerg since 2010. Terran finally knows what it feels it. You actually have to THINK how you engage instead of pressing a move.

Honestly, if you're the type of person who is scanning so often for vision that you get caught with no scans then just build a raven. I realise scan is so convenient that Terran doesn't go it unless to use it for other things but the raven is still a pretty good mobile detector unit and using them for turrets is always pretty okay.

Classic terran. Has a solid enough build order but psyches themself out when they weren't winning hard enough.
@nfzeta1283 жыл бұрын
It's because terran early mid game is dominated by cheap early-mid game units and unlike other races they don't usually see the need to tech up so don't realise they are losing momentum when doing that. Which ends in terrans expecting to win against the counter to their bio army. I guess it's made worse by the fact that they can against protoss where marine marauder can run down collosus or avoid disruptors.

With the issues with scanning and seeing constant lurkers would not a Raven been helpful?

Whenever seeing Terran playing against Zerg with burrow or a lot of creep spread I'm wondering: Is it worth to use a scan everytime to reveal some creep tumors when you could build a Raven and use the energy for mules (or emergency scans) instead?
@Qlmmb20863 жыл бұрын
Ravens are extremely expensive and fragile, and have to be babysat to prevent them from floating right into the enemy army, which is not good against hydra/lurker because the hydra component absolutely shreds them. It's a case of... a scan only costs one action and some mule energy, while a raven costs dozens of action and 200 gas. On paper they *sound* like an easy "build one and have easy passive detection," but in practice they end up being way more trouble than they're worth.
@nfzeta1283 жыл бұрын
@@Qlmmb2086 yea but every other race deals with that, terran can also use the same method as with medivacs. Terran's problem is the design of Terran itself. Things are so convenient that change in response feels bad. It's why this guy felt that not going libs or ghosts was fine.
@Qlmmb20863 жыл бұрын
@@nfzeta128 Eeeh... both other races' flying detection are both cheaper and less likely to die; Overseer is 150/50 to Raven's 100/200 and 200 hp to raven's 140 (and mass-producible), and observers are 25/75, invisible, and slow moving enough to not drift in front of the army. And on top of that... zerg/protos don't' have scan. It just doesn't make sense to use a more expensive, more vulnerable version of the other race's detection when you have something much lower risk in your toolbox. If it was really just about "what's comfortable" pro players would be using ravens for detection, because they care more about optimization than comfortable play, yet the higher level you go the *less* you see ravens for detection, not more.
@nfzeta1283 жыл бұрын
@@Qlmmb2086 It's true that once you have the money just building more CCs for more scans is easier but in situations where you didn't do that ahead of time a raven is still the quicker choice, especially when you can just put them on a separate hotkey. Ravens are also tankier than overseers and they cost more because they can be more than that. Even if you build them for the detection, nothing stopping you from dropping some turrets. Though i agree it's another instance of Terran design beating terran.
@Qlmmb20863 жыл бұрын
@@nfzeta128 Swapping a starport to tech lab and building a raven is not quicker" than waiting for scan energy unless you somehow have all your orbitals on near-zero energy, and if you're floating over 1000 minerals you really shouldn't be overmuleing to that extent in the first place. How are ravens tankier than overseers? They have 30% less HP and the same armor. You're right in saying they can "do more," but that's kind of the problem; you're paying 4x the gas of an overseer for the same functionality if all you want is detection. Interference matrix isn't great against Zerg in general, autoturrets are useless against lurkers specifically, and the units that benefit most from anti-armor missile (light fast-attacking units) all get shredded by lurkers themselves. In this case it's not so much an instance of Terran being defeated by its own design as it is the Terran player making terrible engagement decisions, compounded a bit by him macroing a little too enthusiastically', insofar as building a lot of SCVs and dropping mules whenever available, and then not doing anything with that money and not having energy for scans because of it.

Zerg is the most IMBA race because they can build any unit in the game by using Neural Parasite on a worker unit.

I suck and I would have been good enough to run away from those lurkers with my marines and no detection. Just anything air. People don't build battle cruisers because at the top tier ghosts are better but you can do a lot of damage with battlecruiers, just have to jump away from corruptors or have some vikings.

Liberator, Ghost - BANSHEE you forgot to mention. They really hurt ground units well. A terran that has no Raven min 6 should not complain about burry, or invisible units .... I experience quite frequently that people rush that stuff... and raven is never useless. let it sit gain energy if no need for vision, and once you engage you have a nice debuff available, I think for not upgraded rines it is comparable to double dmg... and the debuff feels lasting forever...
