I can relate to this so much when I am learning Nihonggo for work in Japan. The grammar is very different compared to the English Subject-Verb Agreement and all those principles, it's really different especially when you're conversing on a man or a woman. Slow progress is still a progress and sooner you will just be like its your normal tongue language Sophia. Just don't give up and embrace your growth in this new environment. God bless you. By the way, Japet and Hana you're really doing a good job in parenting. This is what families are for, taking care of one another and being together especially when processing things like this. I completely understand where Sophia is coming from. Spoken language at home is very different than in a school setting where the language is spoken by teachers in its proper form. For example, talking to anyone on the street or at home, I may sound very fluent and knowledgeable in English, but teachers with red pens will remind you that not everything that comes out of your mouth is proper and they often use different and sometimes difficult words and, in most cases, will correct you in front of everyone. But Sophia seems naturally smart and a quick learner and in time she'll acclimate to the new environment and be on par with anyone in her age group. She'll be ready by the time she reaches high school where reading difficult literature, verbally speaking your thoughts and analysis in class, and writing formal compositions will test her true understanding and comprehension of the language. In college, the language turns into a completely different beast altogether. LOL. In US colleges, English courses are required to graduate! Thank God, those painful years are long gone!

The conversation level understanding and utilization is really the most difficult part when you're learning a language different from what you're used to. She has an amazing support system. I'm sure she'll get there in no time. Just keep on encouraging her to talk to her peers. (Even if she doesn't want to😉🤫🤣) That was funny.

Sophia, Dont be shy or afraid to ask question/s whether it's your teachers or classmates. You can tmreqyest them to repeat the word/s, prhrases or sentence and tell them to twll you the meaning and write them down. Dont worry the people around you. Its ok to ask because you are learning and they would understand and appreciate that you like to learn their language. Tell them you are learning the language. Anytime or any words, phrases and sentence you dont understand, right away write it down and ask question so you dont (always have paper & pen or use the note application in your phone to take down notes) forget. Take that opportunity so your progress is fast and you will be more confident :) You got this Sophia!!! I believe in you :)

It needs to court (ligawan) Sophia to gain her friendship :) Thats normal, you want to see if you would be comfortable with the person. As for me, I am extrovert. If I see someone in a crowd that gets my attention, I approach the person and talk to that person. If I see that the person is nice to me, I find something to help her or ask if there is a common place we both like or do, and ask when she going to go there again and I will show up. If I find out that we both work.in the same bldg, I ask which floor their office is and I show up or visit her often during lunch or when getting off work. This happens naturally to me because I like to make friends and the other person warms up to me too - before we know it, we are already good friends. I am giving her company in the weekend. One day, she said - tell me when you need a company because you are always giving me a company. I didnt notice it, I am just happy hanging out with her. I am used to not need a company when i am busy shopping, etc... Thats how I got all my friends. I choose them, myself. If I see that I want to make friends w/ that person. I am the one maling an effort. If I find the person nice or theres something nice about the person or commonality between me and her. I make an effort. There are also times that people are the ones approaching me to make friends...

Why not buy her a language course either a book or video or audio or a proper extra language school….
