Thank you for your insightful reaction and comments. Norwegian born Angelina Jordan began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became one of the youngest ever vocalists to win an international Got Talent Show! Her performance at 9 years old of Screamin Jay Hawkins, I Put a Spell on You is considered one of the finest jazz recordings ever of a 9-year-old vocalist! Angelina also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Angelina sings in English which is only her third language! She is a true prodigy. She is now 18, and has recorded a huge library of songs, including covers and originals. A major attraction to Angelina's music is the emotion and attitude she conveys, Even though she may not have experienced the life events! All her fans are known as Angels. There's a long story behind all of this. She always is known as the barefoot princess because she sings barefoot live in her concerts. She is known as the queen of jazz and the girl of a thousand voices which you will no doubt encounter in your journey with us all in her great repertoire of music. Don't sweat it. Your reaction is the way just about every human reacts the first time they hear Angelina. You'll get used to it a little, but you'll never get over it. The singer is Etta James, but she does Adele, Amy Winehouse, and even Elvis, with equal aplomb and desterity. And her original stuff will curl your socks.

I have been following Angelina for many years. First I want to say that the fact she got to you through the Facebook algorythm tells me her KZbin exposure has reached a certain higher level. You are the first I know of to be found and I have watched many reactors reacting to Angelina. Your reaction was stunning!!! I hope you watch your video and take note of the changes you experienced. Your channel is about to expand exponentially! I watched your reaction to "Fly Me to the Moon" first and it is a total joy to see your reaction. And here you are, even though you didn't like the song/genre she sang, she reached right in and grabbed your heart. She is a "transformer." People change in ways totally perfect for them...... "I'd Rather Go Blind" is a blues song written by Ellington Jordan with co-writing credits to Billy Foster and Etta James. It was first recorded by Etta James in 1967, released the same year, and has subsequently become regarded as a blues and soul classic. Here, Angelina is trying out her new microphone that she received for her birthday, just sitting on the sofa at home. Welcome to Angelina, a prodigy that is soon to launch into fame! This was the song that introduced me to her. She has constantly gotten better but when she burst on the scene at age 7 she was already phenomenal!! I wasn't used to jazz five years ago when I got sucked into Angelina's world. I'm 58 and mostly stayed with 60's-early 80's Rock, Top 40 and Soul/R&B. I've dabbled in other genres from time-to-time on 1-2 year adventures, but never really was into jazz. I did like Norah Jones for her first couple albums then my ADHD took me elsewhere. Since discovering Angelina and getting used to jazz embellishments and styles, I've barely listened to anything else in the last 5 years. I've listened to her sing for at least a thousand hours as well as watched many hundreds of hours of reactions to her. I have found the best way to listen to her is with good headphones and with my eyes closed to just focus on her rich, complex, and very emotional voice. Many fans say "If you want to hear a great song - listen to the original. If you want to FEEL it, listen to Angelina cover it."

The following story I will share with you is 'hearsay' but I hope you enjoy it (including all the Angelina 'angels' watching your video). When Angelina was born and the nurses were attending to her, one of them picked her up and got ready to hand her to mom. After leaving the room the one nurse said to the other, "You know, something odd happened when I was holding the baby for those few seconds. I don't know if it was my imagination but I would swear I heard her humming some musical notes!" And so the story of Angelina Jordan Astar was born.

Well, welcome to the AJ Rabbit Hole! You are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Even though she has been compared by many to Amy Winehouse, her major influence is Billie Holiday. Other influences are Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Etta James, Whitney Houston, and Adele to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, "Wow, what a rendition!" For Queen to respond to someone covering one of their songs is quite a feat since they rarely react to anyone. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity. Now 18 years old, living in Los Angeles, and currently signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. You started by saying you want more stuff to react to. Enter Angelina Jordan!! You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (170+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice! Her wise and loving family refused all offers from record labels and Disney, allowing her to have a childhood. I'd Rather Go Blind" is a blues song written by Ellington Jordan and co-credited to Billy Foster and Etta James. First recorded by Etta James in 1967, it is now considered a blues and soul standard, covered by numerous artists. Chris Stapleton "borrowed" the melody from I'd Rather Go Blind for his Tennessee Whiskey.

The Barefoot Jazzy Queen Angelina. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZbin. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZbin went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZbin. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. A class mate told a Norwegian TV-Team, that Angelina is very good at mathematics and languages. She speaks Norwegian, Swedish, English, Persian Farsi, Japanese and a bit of French and German. Angelina is 13 years old in this video. Angelina started singing when she was 1 1/2 years of age and there is video of her at that age sitting in a bed with a microphone in her hand singing Whitney Houston's "I will always love you ". You need to go back to when Angelina was 6 years old in the studio singing and recording a Tom Jones classic " I who have nothing " and work your way to current day. Angelina is 18m years old now as of January 10th 2024.

@@robertbiron Yes you are right, Angelina was 12 years old when she received that microphone for her birthday. I didn't realize I put 13 years old until after I sent the post.

Great reaction, Choppedliver! This is an Etta James cover of her original song, released in 1967. Angelina has also performed other Etta James songs, "At Last" when she was 8 years old for a fundraising telethon, and "Somethings Got A Hold On Me" when she was 9 years old at an annual festival on the Norwegian/Swedish border. Angelina is originally from Norway, now living in L.A.
