I've been interested in making my own tea pets, but i can't seem to find anywhere that would show me how. Can you use any clay and does it have to be baked?

To be honest, I don't think there are any strict criteria - although I'm sure someone might disagree! Really any figuring or sculpture can works as a tea pet, as they're purely decorative. If you intend to pour tea over it (which some do), then you might want to make sure the material can handle that, especially hot liquid. In that case then ceramic might be the best, and probably something that has been properly fired in a kiln. You could try a low temperature home-baked ceramic or air dry one too, but it may stain easier, especially without a glaze.
