Back around the end of the 2nd millennium, circa 1999, I remembered having a "good" pirated copy of "The Matrix" (1) with 4:3 crop, there can be seen clearly in the famous "Hallway Shooting", when Neo drops his M16, it's barrel/muzzle brake flexes upon hitting the floor. It can't be seen on later version with 16:9 crop version, but back then I thought like "WTH??!", now it all makes sense, "latex movie prop". :D (more than a decade later :)

Lets be honest, those swords are not hard to make... i'm pretty sure you can rent a pain gun and and compressor for the price of a pancake...
@seigeengine10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the equipment is expensive, but consider that you have material costs, overhead, and likely a couple hours or more of time sunk into each one by the time it's shipped off. Maybe an hour and a half for simpler ones, and it starts making sense. The base models generally run more in the $50 range, which isn't too bad. And while you can sink thousands into garb, you can get some basics that will fit the theme well enough for under another $50. Of course, you can always try making your own if you're so inclined. A lot of LARPs are fine with the cheaper PVC, foam, and duct tape monstrosities, and they may even be fine with you wearing modern clothing. ForeskinMan Renting tools is actually fairly expensive, and no, most people don't have the skill to create swords of that quality, although they were hardly great examples.
@tmntleo10 жыл бұрын
seigeengine I wasn't complaining dude, I know it takes a lot of skill to make decent LARP equipment ^^; I was just saying, it is an expensive hobby, my daggers cost me £40 alone, the swords I'm looking at will set me back a good £200.
@seigeengine10 жыл бұрын
Commander5AM It's only as expensive as you choose to make it. Getting into it is cheap. A few bucks even. Having an authentic high quality costume consisting of dozens of items can cost thousands though. Now, the costs to go to LARP events can be pretty pricey though.
@tmntleo10 жыл бұрын
seigeengine The LARP event I used to attend had a standard with rules. One of the rules was all the weapons had to be made by Eldritch and their stuff is very expensive. My get up cost me £10, my armor cost me nothing because I have a good friend who made me it for free as a birthday gift. The events can be very expensive yes, the one I go to was £60 per event which was full weekend with food provided, but to me that was a lot of money because on top I had to get £40 worth of travel.

@Blackout0O02 жыл бұрын
The maces and hammers surely flatten flies and fingers! Still should wear gloves and helmet when fighting: not for a eye poke, but a black eye or nose bleed! They have a realistic imbalance, getting quite heavy and cumbersome if you miss a few swings and must recover quickly. Though slower to parry and feint, their weight can block better and smash through blocks doing stamina damage/bit away the opponents weapon and create openings. As a bonus, any hook or curve can pull opponents shield or weapon (a crescent/bearded axe or square-ish mallet). Halloween stores sometimes sell mediocre weapons to get started for like 30$.

@travelsonic11 жыл бұрын
These look like someone could do it on their own given the supplies - I know they say the foam is flexible and waterproof, but wonder how hard it is to find that stuff/where to look. Another benefit of narrower cores: You can shape the foam to look realistic and still have appropriate thicknesses of foam between the player getting hit and the core for safety reasons.

@KingHalbatorix9 жыл бұрын
just use regular superglue, the stuff they use is expensive and intended for high quality bonds that last through sustained use. unless you're some ultra weeb that cosplays every day for no reason you don't need better than superglue
@maciejkozak34489 жыл бұрын
+KingHalbatorix maybe he just wants to make something that won't break in the middle of game. Besides, superglue would probably melt foam.

Maciej Kozak He said cosplay i.e. standing still for several hours and posing
@GH02029 жыл бұрын
+KingHalbatorix well, no. I said cosplay as in walking around at a convention for aprox 8-10 hours straight for 3 days or so, including skits, fotoshoots, and most likely roleplaying. some of my friend have tried using regular superglue for their props, but it just ends up cracking and braking way too easily. plus, the bonds look like shit and it's hard to conceal them with only paint. the goal of making props with craft foam is to make them flexible and using superglue defeats that purpose.

While most pommels are indeed counterweights as well as slide-stoppers, some are just the latter. I doubt that rubber pommel would be heavy enough to balance the sword at all, especially since the handle had a metal tube in it AND the blade's tip was hollow.
