Lava lamps today are nowhere as popular as they were in the 1990s an early 2000s when they were manufactured in Chicago. There is a huge quality control problem with the lava lamps of today versus the lamps of yesteryear. Hopefully one day they will flow like they used to.

Boring, repetitive script that does nothing to tell you how they’re made or how they work. Simple concept really. The heat source changes the specific gravity of the wax more than it changes the specific gravity of the liquid ( antifreeze ). As the wax heats up it becomes less dense and so it rises. Salts control the size of the globs.
