Is this really a dynamo? Why I ask this is because from my understanding a dynamo makes DC power via a commutator to make contact on only half of the sine wave and disconnect on the other half. Without the commutator it would produce AC power. At 5:12 in the video the volt meter is hooked up to the AC scale. But if the little black box on this bike dynamo is a couple of diodes to rectify the power to make this produce DC power then this is working more like a modern day alternator in car. Just a little simpler. I'm not bashing the video. Great to see whats inside one of these things. Just questioning it "for science!". Check out the wikipedia page for dynamo. But if i'm wrong then I got some learning to do.

Most of classic bicycle dynamos are in fact simple AC generators. Why? Because old good incandescent bulbs, can work equally well at AC and DC voltage. So you don't need to rectify it. Moreover, you lose about 2 volts if you rectify it. This dynamo is 12 V, but i think most dynamos in Europe are just 6 V. Today LED lights are common, so there must be a rectifier, or some sort of AC/DC voltage converter, inside the LED assembly.

I saved a cuople of these.I found an old one recently that ddnt turn anymore. I opened it up and it had 2 cool pieces inside. A rotor with a cool looking metallic neo magnet attached to it. And a spool of wire encased in metal casing. I had to destroy the dynamo to get the parts.

Yes, in cycle dynamos that were built approximately before 1960, the magnets were made of metal, for example Alnico. Ferrite ceramics were later used. I have a 60 year old dynamo, with a two-pole metal magnet, that works like new.
