6:53 A volt is not a unit of energy; it's a unit of potential. It's a measure of energy *per charge*. No charge, no energy. That's why the spark you get from walking across the carpet - which ranges from 2000 to 20,000 volts - doesn't do much harm: almost no current. (Current is moving charge.)
@michaelgeale9345
@michaelgeale9345 6 жыл бұрын
almost.. current isn't limited in any way during a static discharge, voltage potential is actually pulled down to almost zero instantly. Current is always a measurement of volts x resistance (ohms) and since your resistance is quite high and the voltage is pulled very quickly to zero as the gap (the potential) is closed quickly, almost no current flows.

I would like to issue a correction to the lineman suit: it's not that the metal has a high conductance than the human flesh that keeps the worker safe, it's the fact that electricity runs on the outside surface of anything it goes through, thus creating a faraday cage. The human body conducts electricity much better than air, so if you miss part of the metal mesh, it would directly flow through the body.

On average we pay 200,000 visits to one each year? How can that be possibly right? I don’t personally use the restroom 500 times a day. But he can’t be talking about the UK as a whole because there is way too many people for 200,000 to make sense. What does he mean? I guess 2,000 times a year makes more sense, but that’s still 5 times a day.

Faster? Where did you get faster from? Lets say for an example you have 5 big buckets that you need filled up every day, and you have 5 automated robots to do it for you. But one day you need to fill 7 buckets, you can fill the two last buckets yourselfe, to make it more eficient, or wait for the robots to do it. Yes it is faster to help the robots, but it does not necesseraly make you faster than the robots.

volt is not an amount of energy; a volt is a certain amount of energy per a certain amount of charge. It is because the latter is so small that we are not exploiting lightning as the tremendous power supply many people appear to think it is: there are lots of joules per coulomb, but because there are not many coulombs there, there is not a lot of joules either. remember: energy is in joules or calories or KWh.
